Oh lordy, I just soiled myself!:eek::eek:

That is one awesome setup Lenny! And don't sweat the paisley - I dig those too! :D

Oh, and BTW - replace that buffered BOSS TU2 with a true bypass Korg PitchBlack - you'll thank me later!

really? i wondered whether the pitch blacks were gonna be any good.

OK serious question:

Most everyone here seems to prefer individual stomp boxes instead of multi-effects. Are there any good multi-effects out there at all that are actually worth it? Otherwise I'll be going the stompbox route!

DEFINITELY.

i use the TC Electronics G-system and that unit is awesome!! the effects engine in it is astounding. their delays & choruses are so transparent and their vintage phasers/flangers etc are just as you'd like them to be. thick & warm.

sure it has 1 or 2 effects that certain people might want in it but since it has 5 controllable effects loops, you can add stomp boxes if you like.

they recently released the editor software too so you can edit the patches on your PC/MAC then upload to the system. easy peasy.

i used ot be all pro stomp boxes. i had a fair amount on my board and got tired of becoming a tap dance pro. granted at the time i hadn't heard of the gigrig products. however, i haven't found a single multi fx unit that comes close to the quality of sound you get from the TC g-system.

There some very good (G-system), and some good enough (G2.1U), multieffects pedals but it is way more fun going the individual pedal route so you can replace one at a time if desired. I have some of each and while the multieffect pedals are often good enough, they also do not provide the routing flexibility that individual pedals afford.

a very fair/fine point there ebmmguy.

that flexability is certainly invaluable. the likes of the TC G-force offers complete routing flexability but its a bit pricey for what it is.

for me anyway, i know that once i had my routing sorted with my stomp boxes, it was never touched.

it all comes down to what you want from your effects and your sound.

My biggest problem with multieffect boards is that I find it tedious programming them and setting them up....but then again I'm old school. I am interested in the G System though as I've heard nothing but good things about it.

its just so flexable and the quality is superb too. for me, its got the same quality of product and customer care as EBMM do!!! ;)

if you search on youtube, there's a few vids of them testing the ruggedness of the g-system. they run over it with various vehicles (including a tank) and the unit still works after it all!.

not that anyone plans to drive a tank on stage, or for that matter, play an open air gig in the middle of a battlefield but you get my drift.

I have never been remotely intrigued by any multi effects unit - except the G-System. I think if I ever switched over - that would be the one. Just an amazing unit and so well thought out. Great stuff. If Vai can dump his rack for one..........

I'd get one of those G systems too, but it's just entirely too much $$$ for me. I've heard nothing but great things (and great sounds) concerning them.

I had all pedals years ago. Then I ditched them all for rack gear (with MIDI footcontroller), then I went to a modeler with nothing else, then back to all pedals.

mr. b and ebmmguy make good points. It really depends what works best for you and your performance requirements at a particular point in time.

i was tempted by the tc electronics g system too...

i find individual pedals are better to really understand an effect with, to really get to know it.. but i also like convenience of multi effects..

i have both lots of single effects and a GT-3.. which i think is quite a sturdy and user friendly interface.. sounds ok.. not amazing but for the money on ebay is quite good to start off with..

pod xt live was ok, i used it mostly for plex/mesa sounds as i use a fender hot rod as an amp..so rather than pull an amp out each time, i just ran the line 6 in the effects loop.. its was ok.. but delays weren't amazing..

i think you really do tell the quality of a multi effects by the delays..

i have to say the one thing that puts me off multi fx with amp modellers is that to my ears, they just don't cut it live.

i think for recording purposes, for the likes of demos etc, they're great. But live work, i still think they seem too processed.

i agree.. and also the overall sound depends on how good your pa on the night ends up..especially if you are using no amp and just monitor wedges as you returns... can go VERY wrong!!
