What a story cat - kind of gets you where ya live.

Now on to happier things... If a guy was worried about the security of the guitar on the wall hanger that is only in the drywall - there are other options.

Get a cheap studfinder and then mount the wall hanger into a stud. Really it's the best way to do it. Use longer screws and center the hanger base on the stud and angle the screws slightly so that they catch into the stud real well.
Or, get a really nice board and mount it horizontally on the wall and screw it down securely into studs. Then mount your wall hangers onto the board. The board could be a nice piece of pine and then you could paint it to match the wall, you could also rout the edge with a fancy rout.
You could also use what most stores use and that's the slat board; and then buy the hangers that mount in slatboard. Kind ofexpensive but its a nice system.

Personally, I don't worry at all, even if there is an earthquake, when my axe hangers are mounted to a stud. Also, if you've got kids, you might want to put a little pad behind where the body would touch the wall if the guitar were pushed towards it.

slatwall info

my 2 cents.

I only put hangers into the wall studs, I would never just hang guitars from drywall. That said, I've had no problems with my two hangers and they come in very handy.

Also, and this is especially to Fing, BP chimed in not long ago to say that hanging guitars is totally fine...

Keith, why do you say? I can understand it causing problems where the humidity varies wildly, but my room has been REASONABLY controlled and I haven't had any problems. Is there something I'm missing?

Mike

Mike,

it is really just my personal preference not to hang them, plus for me controlling the temp and humidity is a big issue here, and knowing my luck even having it screwed in a stud, something I did not want would happen:eek:

I know what BP said, I remember that thread and his comment again just my preference not to hang guitars but if one wants to do it who am I to go against it:p

Always two sides to a story.

I usually have a guitar out on a stand and rotate them - I play with all my balls.
If they are not on the stand they are in the case - keeps dust out.

However - many years ago I stopped playing for a long time and left my Les Paul in it's case - the result was that the covering in the case stuck to the guitar. It didn't freak me that much 'cos the guitar is well worn - but if it was case queen then I would have been bummed.

OT
I gotta get up there to see yer geetars and I have a week off the week after next - I can bring the guitar polish with me:D

I've mounted mine 50cm apart, good distance both from a visual and usability point of view. When going into studs you are more restricted. That said if your hangers are pulling away already you should try some better plugs...cannot remember the ones I got but they were serious looking beasties and work a treat!

Edit: just noticed the pic of the plugs you used... mine were way bigger / tougher looking than those! Spend a bit more time in the hardware shops. ;)

My bud had a nice setup.

Had a 1x4 strip maybe 8 feet or so horizontal that was secured to the studs and had all kinds of hooks and hanging apparati for guitars/and such. It was painted and looked clean.

Me? Two at a time on a stand.
