When EB shipps thier new axes over the pond, do you guys use a different carton?

w/ the new cases, they perfectly fit the carton...do you use the same combo (case/carton) for all shipments?

i have sold my other gold quilt axis to a dude in france and am looking for a little input

Hi Brent,

We use the same case/box combination, but most of the time the instruments are palletized and shrink wrapped. If you'd feel more comfortable shipping it with extra padding, I'd find a bigger box and pad the case.

But then again, Brent, we ship this stuff internationally all the time on a case by case (pardon the pun, nyuk nyuk nyuk) basis out to artists who are overseas and haven't heard of any problems above and beyond what we normally experience with domestic shipping companies, so you should be safe either way.

ok, cool...i know the newer EB cases dont allow the guitar to move much, so that in itself is important, plus it is plastic, not plywood...much better!

When I shipped my old Cherry Burst Axis to Jommi I just put it into the original EBMM box. No problems here:D

I shipped a very early Trans Red EVH, one of the first hundred, to Scotland. It arrived with the headstock snapped from the nut to under the 3rd fret diagonally. I was majorly pissed off as the shipping company would not honour this and produced my signature on the POD with lots of small-print to back their story. Anyway, it was shipped back to me and I sold it broken for a pitifully low price. It was caused by the lateral play in the case. Needless to say, I now jam a sponge or something else non abrasive but rigid between the upper bout and the accessory pocket of the case to prevent this. Be careful, but remember, when some care-free baggage handler catches you guitar as it's thrown from 50 feet out of an aeroplane onto the ground, there is no gaurantee that he will catch it, or what end up the guitar is in the case. Bad memories to say the least.

Two of my four Axes were shipped by one of the major couriers in North America - one purchased from a forumite and the other off eBay. One in a gig bag, and one in the G&G case (not the newer plastic case). Actually, my OLP doubleneck was shipped the same way in a gig bag....Anyway, they were shipped in standard guitar shipping cartons with paper and styrofoam peanuts, and all arrived without a problem at all, including the gig bagged ones.

Now, none of this was inter-continental......

I guess I just felt compelled to type (and increase my post count.....)

I've had nothing but good luck shipping guitars overseas using USPS Global Economy Service. The UPS Store can accept packages for you because sometimes the local post office may not be as helpful in dealing with large shipments. The shipping cost is almost half, and the instruments arrive within 10 business days.

thanks for all the input!

i trust the new MM molded cases...they "HUG" the guitar and dont allow for movement inside...so i'm pretty confident!!!

as long a a truck doesnt run over it, I should be just fine!!:p

Brent,

Just make sure that the locking nuts are very tight or take them off an put them in a zip lock bag. I shipped an Axis once over seas and one of the lockoing nuts fell off and absolutely ruined the back of the guitar. I compenstad the buyer about half of the purchase price to make up for my blunder.

No problems here either.

Received a JP from ernie and a JP from Pete last year in normal case/box combination problem free.

All my import Ball's came in cardboard boxes, and then in either the G&G case or the plastic SKB one. Both guitars were in perfect condition on arrival. No extra packing in the cases either.
