That's interesting Ricman.

I have the plug-in, which I think can work with any Line 6 hardware connected to the computer as the 'dongle'.

Do you know what they have removed to make the GX 'stripped down', is there any signal quality difference or is it just the extra inputs for mic etc?

Hey axilla! There's a demo version of GR2 on the native intruments homepage. Only problem is that you need a special soundcard which can feed your dry guitar signal into your computer.

Hi Volker !
I watched those demos and to my understanding the software/hardware bundle with the footcontroller IS already that special soundcard solution ?!?
Otherwise my PC features a Soundblaster "Live!" card which should be enough I guess ?!?
...oh, also found the so called "producer pack" which contains a different audio controller ("Kontrol1" or so) which also is an audio interface...
Thankya for any input ! :)

There's a software only version of GR2.
As soundcard you'll need something with a high impendance instrument input and low latency.
Something like this (Edirol UA-25 USB Audio Interface)
or this (IK Multimedia Stealthplug) should work.

I used my POD XT which can deliver to the dry signal, too. The problem is it has some latency which is really annoying and makes playing fast stuff nearly impossible.

Its just the inputs, meters etc on the case Starsky....the GX is about the size of a packet of cigerettes...it just has an input for the guitar, and at the back a USB and an audio out. The software is the same as the other toneports. All for about $50. Astonishing really.

PS - yes you can transfer the plug-in software - I bought it for my PODXT and moved it over to the GX - you have it de-authorise it form the other hardware first though - through the Line 6 Monkey App.

Dont know anything about the Guitar Rig, but I can say the POD works wonders, especially paired with a MacBook and Logic Express :)

Today I took delivery of Guitar Rig 3 Master version (final version before it's released to the public) and let me tell you it's great. I actually sold my amp soon after getting it in it's beta phase. I wasn't a fan of GR2 to be honest but this is worth considering...

I have the Line 6 Toneport UX1 it is far less inspiring than a tube amp IMO... I find I spend more time trying to get a good tone then actually playing/practicing...

I have just ordered a POD 2.0. After doing much research, the general consensus was that its core tones were better than the POD XT. All I have bought it for is for fiddling about at home, and using as a backup at gigs. I will let you all know how I get on when I receive it.

So far I still love my UX2 better than GR2, there's something about the tone quality from UX2 that I really like it . Once Eric Johnson said that he likes the Guitar Port ..oh well I don't want to start arguing about the tone with him :D .

goodluck with your tone searching everyone!

Must admit I think Guitar Rig 2 is great. Everything on my SoundClick (Mike Stoner) was recorded with it (and an Axis of course). Click the "Music" link and check out "Monday Blues" and "Greasy Truckers" for some nice tones.

hi axilla,

i haven´t read the complete thread now, but i tried GuitarRig2, Waves GuitarTool and IKs Amplitube2 and some Samplitude9 plugins for guitarsounds in the last few weeks.

forgett GR2, it sounds crappy compared to waves GT and the highend software amplitube2.
if you really think about one of these programms, go for IKs AT2!
if you record with sampltude9, tried the AM/phibia plugin for guitar sounds as well.
it works great!

i have some samples (sadly no AT2), which i could send you via email.

Hi Joe,
thanks for the info. I'm currently waiting for a POD2 which a friend will lend me for a try. The Amplitube2 software is most definitely what I'm tending towards at the moment. I just have to check now whether it would be a good choice to buy their StealthPlug and upgrade, or rather buy the software and get a different audio input interface... Any suggestions on such an interface ?!
Thank you so much !

for an USB audio interface i would recommend you Tascam US144 (i think this is the latest version)
it´s pretty cool, with mic / line and instrument input
