Bands Reforming

I recently read an article about Faith No More reforming to do some festivals in Europe and got excited at the prospect of a possible world tour so that I could finally get to see them live. I always missed them when they came to Australia in the '90's.

However when I see something like this I'm torn 2 ways. I know a few of my friends would say 'They're just cashing in on past glories, reviving their flagging career etc' and I know that may be true.

But when I think about it, I've had some really good experiences from bands reforming (in terms of concerts, not albums) Jimmy Page & Robert Plant, Jane's Addiction, The Pixies. It gave me a chance to see artists who broke-up before I was even born, or just a little too young to get into them when they were together.

What do you guys think about this kind of thing?

Whichever way you look at it, whether it is a lucrative scheme or not, it is always good for the fans of a given band which had previously split and reformed. The fans will want to see their heros no matter what so I am all in favour of this kind of things.

Bring back Living Color, Level 42, Pretenders, Sex Pistols, you name it... it'll get my vote.

:confused: It'll be tough for the Sex Pistols and Milli Vanilli, since critical members are dead from those bands.

Kinda the same thing with the Pretenders, most of their original guys are dead, but they did manage to put out a new album in 2008.

I saw the first Living Colour reunion show in Central Park about 8 years ago and several times since. Those guys will always have it as long as they keep doing shows. The crowd at the central Park show was just going nuts. Amazing they way they sort of 'updated' their older songs to keep it interesting for them, just like The Police did on their last tour.

Many of the bands had an incredible time together. They are now able to go and have an incredible time together again. Who wouldn't!! Bring it on!

Who cares if they're in it for the money anyway? Not like they were in it for many other reasons in the first place. Bottom line is, we get to see these awesome bands that some of us couldn't before (age). Look at The Police reunion. Glad i got to see that tour come to Oz. Now, there's one reunion that was PURELY to top up the accounts.
I really hope Faith No More bring a couple of shows to AustraLIA.
I'd prefer it with Jim martin but what the heck.
Staying on the Patton subject, how about Mr. Bungle reunion?
Now THAT i'd reeeeally love to see.
You guys heard thAT Extreme are doing a reunion tour too?
Oh yeah , and Take That are too! LOL

I saw the Pistols on the Filthy Lucre tour with Glen Matlock (original bassist) on bass, and it was a great time. Never got to see them originally and it was good to see them live.

Thanks for your input on this everyone. :)

Sounds like everyone has had the same experience as me, a good time and a chance to see a band in the flesh that otherwise you would never have the opportunity to see.

Obviously, whatever you get out of it, is more important than whatever the band in question's motivations might be.

My only issue with bands reforming is if they do it without critical members. Sometimes you can make it work (i.e. Van Halen w/Sammy) and sometimes not (i.e. Van Halen w/Gary). Alice In Chains is back together, but without Lane is it really AIC? Mike Tramp reformed White Lion (twice) but without Vito it's just not the same. Even better, Credence Clearwater Revisited (aka CCR sans John Fogerty).... come on now!

As far as FNM reforming, I'm happy to hear it. I hope they put out another album, I'm sure they've all got some good material to work with after being apart so long. I think Jim Martin has given up commercial music, last I heard he was growing record-sized vegetables.

That's an excellent point Jason2112! I didn't think of that but now you mention it, yes, that makes a huge difference. It is definitely not the same without critical members.
I saw Van Halen with Gary and it sucked (sorry Gary, I know you tried your best).
Yes a new FNM album would be great! :D Fingers are crossed as we speak...

well one member has past on, and l heard the other member actually learn t how to sing. It's amazing now that miming is more acceptable, but back then, well we all know what happen to Milli Vanilli.

But l'm glad Extreme got back together, Baby Animals and some other great rock bands, that l just can't remember.
