Jeff, Bass Central Asst. Mang., Mike Amico, is in the process of posting pix! Then, I guess we can actually claim to have the bass, right?

***Still waiting on your Bongo, but should be soon.....Thanx for the patience.

It will take more than a few...I'm not afraid to spend money on special basses, but this is way, WAY up there.

Looking at these and considering how few of them there are, I find myself approaching the "do not play this" line. An LE, sure, I'll gig it 'til I drop and apply all kinds of mojo to it. Even a BFR, assuming it's a BFR like the guitars we've seen (not ultra-rare).

But there are ten of these. Ten. That's it. And there are only four available to us.

You're getting into serious territory there.

Tony Levin said last night that the unique blackburst BFR that was made for him is now his number-one bass. "It's the only one that comes close to the Barbie Flesh bass" or words to that effect was the quote. But that's a special case...a custom instrument made for a specific artist. Its a one-of-a-kind, for Tony to do what he wants with it.

These are different, somehow. They're available to anyone with the means to afford them. Since the buyers aren't likely to be celebs in their own right, that means the instruments themselves become more important.

Generally speaking, I don't place much value on collectibilty. To me, an instrument is made to be played, cars are made to be driven, etc. But when there are only a handful of examples....well, there's something to be said for hanging onto an object for its own sake. If I bought one of these, I'd hold it in trust for a museum instead of playing it.

Ma, these are killing me. I keep thinking of how many non-BFR's I could buy with that money, but I am not sure if I am winning the argument with myself! Simply awesome!
