Mike,

Try cduniverse.com, they have decent prices and selection. I have ordered from them several times and never had a problem. Same with cdconnection.com.

I don't have any MP3's of Transatlantic, I really don't collect MP3's at all.

I'd like to recommend John Paul Jones's playing on Led Zeppelin II. I listened to it the other day for the first time, and it completely floored me. I'm not sure if it's what you're really after, because it's most definately not slap, and it's not really that jazzy. He lays down some sick walking stuff in The Lemon Song, but in a very bluesy fashion. I just want everyone to check it out really, it's awesome all the way through, not a turkey on there (except maybe Moby Dick). The bass is right out the front through a lot of it. Great stuff.

Man, I just got to the point where the riff kicks in on Bringing It All Back Home. Oh my god, that's so good. SO GOOD!

Here, here! I am the only other person who mentioned him in this thread, and it makes me wonder why  .... the most under-appreciated, under-rated member of Zep.... he did all the keyboard work as well, if I am not mistaken.

Thanks for bringing up JPJ!! :)

oh man, haha. you don't even need to tell me about John Paul Jones. i KNOW how cool he is. i dig zeppelin.

anyway...i did look for All stuff at the cd shop too, but found like...one album, and it wasn't the album that someone suggested earlier, so i didn't really take a second look. so the 'best of' cd is their best? :p

which muse albums?
what kind of music?
haha...

Muse's music is a little hard to describe... part Indie, part Progressive, part Rock-Opera, part Metal, part Punk(?) (they like Nirvana, anyway...).... you gotta hear 'em. :)

Absolution is the newest... and it is a great record. I think it is the only one that is not an import in the US. IMO, Showbiz (their first) and Absolution are the best.

Origin of Symmetry is their 2nd... good, but not as good as the other two. Hallabaloo is two CDs- one B-sides and rare tracks- the other live. This one is more for the hard-core fan-I like it, but the first disc is a little.... weird. There is also a DVD version available- but it only runs on UK machines! (at least I can't find one that works in US versions....

Bottom line, I would start with Absolution and definitley get Showbiz. They rock and sound like no one else (I don't get the Radiohead comparisons AT ALL! ).

Enjoy! See them live, if you can- they are awesome :D :D :D .

yeah i wouldnt say the "punk" tag line exactly fits ALL, each all album has a different feel to it. you should check out their song "birds" or "educated idiot". Karl also has used stingrays and sabres in ALL/Descendents.

Also I want to add that Billy Shehan has a intrumental power trio (but is a keyboard, drums and bass) called Niacin. Niacin have 4 albums: Niacin(1997), High Bias (1998), Deep (2000), Time Crunch(2001). The mebers: John Novello-Keyboards, Dennis Chambers-Drums, Billy (BASS of course). The music is a fusion stuff, very good!!

listen to the album "SMPTE" by the band "Transatlantic". You will be blown away.

It's a supergroup with Pete Trevawas (from Marillion) on bass, Mike Portnoy (from Dream Theater) on drums, Roine Stolt (from The Flower Kings) on guitar, and Neal Morse (from Spock's Beard) on keys & vocals.

Pete Trevawas *always* has great bass lines going on.. check any Marillion album released from 1983 to 1989. (Script for a Jester's Tear, Fugazi, Misplaced Childhood, Clutching at Straws, Season's End). Every Marillion song from that era had great bass. Every single one. I'm telling you, Pete Trevawas is the most under appreciated bass player walking the face of the earth.

Billy Sheehan was originally in a band called Talas. They released two albums in the 80's and then broke up. I think Billy Sheehan was the only consistent member on those two albums...the entire band is different on the 2nd album except for Billy. Many years later a third album was made with the original members. As I recall, the first album was called "Sink Your Teeth Into That" and the second was called "Live Speed on Ice". I have a CD that combines both of those albums onto one disc called "Billy Sheehan: The Talas Years". The 3rd album was called "If We Only Knew Then What We Know Now".

Now go get some of Pete Trevawas' work!

The Niacin albums are centered around Hammond B3 Organ sounds. Hence the name of the band (Vitamin B3 = niacin). Because you needed to know...

With regards to the ALL 'best of' being their 'best' album, I just meant that (IMHO) pretty much ALL of their songs have great Karl Alverez bass in them, so it's difficult to suggest just one album. I don't even own the 'best of' because I have ALL of their albums already, but the tracks were supposedly selected by the fans so I would assume it's a well rounded collection and if you are looking for ONE CD, then I assume that's the one to go for (if people want a single CD by a band they've never heard of, I assume the 'best of' is usually a good starting point to suggest to see if they actually LIKE them first, before buying any other albums). You probably can't go wrong with ANY of their albums, but personally I prefer the vocal stylings of Dave Smalley and Scott Reynolds to Chad Price (current singer). Some people feel the opposite, so it's ALL up to YOU! But are YOU up to ALL?
