I agree with all everybody is saying. plus...

you get your very own part of the frequency spectrum (unless you're playing with a keyboardist with an overactive left hand...)

everybody needs a good bass player, so you get called in to play all different kinds of music.

you can take a song where you want to... a power that has to be used in moderation, but it's there!

I play a little guitar as well, and I picked up a guitar at a recent loose rehearsal, and after about 2 minutes, I was like "I can't hear myself, I don't have power, give me my bass back!"

It 's a serious question.
I don't have the answer otherwise I would not have asked the Question.
I may know more after being pounded by two serious bass players on Thursday Night.
Got a call last night to do a deal on a bass and amp in exchange for an air compressor.
Is that good timing and a deal?

And you've received a number of serious answers. Buy a bass and see if you like it. If bass doesn't excite you, you can sell it again. It's not a life or death decision. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I started, a long, long time ago, because it "was cool"...

Along the way I played guitar and drums - found I was an okay guitar player and a damn good drummer...

In the end, I am a bass player, because, well, it's cool... ;)

It's cool to drive... It's cool to be the anchor, the body, the heart and soul of the song... It's cool to make people move... The bass owns the critical central space that the "other" instruments revolve around. The bass is the center of the musical universe.

It's just so friggin' cool...

Excellent! :D

BTW - While my earlier comments were a bit "excessively expressive" I was being dead serious. And the feeling become that much more intense when you've got the right bass in your hands.

Good luck on your quest... :)

So I meet a muso at a bar. You must play bass, it's the greatest he say's. Well I'm learning Lead OK now. What good reasons can you give me to change Mr Bassman.
I've always felt that an instrument choses you...pretty much a calling.

You'll be able to tell from the way you feel when you play your weapon of choice whether or not you've gone in the right direction.
