Just joking, it's not THAT urgent, but I'm having a bit of a problem with my bass (I hope some of you can relate). I recently got my Graphite Pearl SR4, some of you might have seen my other posting of it, and I just started to go back to some slapping techniques on it. Here's the problem, I'm scared to HURT my beautiful new Stingray  with slapping and popping. Probably think I'm crazy by saying that; but I honestly feel that a bass this beautiful should be played with the grace of an angel :D . Anyone else feel this way when they first got their MM ??

ha!

no way dude ... you gotta beat the hell out of em.

My 'Ray refuses to sound good if you play like you borrowed it!! The more the beating the better it gets. Just like a heavyweight champion, give it your best shot, just stands there smiling, and says" Is that all you got? ....boy?"

When practicing alone, I play slap probably 70% of the time! Just go for it :p Depending on how harsh your technique is, there is no real risk of causing damage. Ive been slapping away on mine for a month and its still in mint condition. Wonder when the first ding will come..

my bondo had a ding on its headstock when i bought it, which contributed to the outrageous discount i got.

as a result, i was never worried about babying the bongo...
hell, the harder i pluck those strings the funkier the HH's sound.

its incredible that the pups don't overdrive at all, they just sound funkier, snappier, more defined. these basses really are something special.:D

slap!

If you find the right setup for your bass you won't have to thump and slap hard at all. Also, the older your strings get, the the more force you have to use to get that "sound".
