I'm trying to figure out how to switch between my stingray and sterling during a set. I'd like to eq both for the tone i like, and switch between styles easily. However, i don't want to mess with the settings on my head, nor have time to play long enough to change settings when i switch basses.

Can anyone suggest a way to do this? I've been looking into rackmount dual channel equalizers..? Any suggestions? Are there dual channel equalizer pedals to easily change basses?

Forgive me for asking a dumb question, but if you want them to sound the same then why are you switching basses in the first place?

I'm having issues with low tuning. I'm debating playing a musicman for standard tuning, and switching to something else for drop tuning.

Ah.

Well, you could go for a stereo EQ setup and run your bass input into an A/B switch. (Boss makes a really great little powered stomp box switch that can do all sorts of nifty things...highly recommended.)

The two outputs of the A/B go to the two sides of the EQ respectively.

Combine the output of the two sides of the EQ into one via a Y connector and plug that into your amp. Done.

All you have to do is remember to hit the switch so that the bass in your hand feeds the right signal path.

I think the easier way to do it, though, would be to work out the EQ settings on each bass that give you your desired tone ahead of time, and leave them set that way. Mark them if you need to.

I fiddle with my EQ on stage for certain songs...I don't micromanage the thing, but sometimes I want an early-60s thump, and other times I want a more growly, aggressive sound. I know how to turn the knobs to get that and it only takes two seconds.

Hope you dont mind me asking but are you the new bass player for Cartel? Welcome to the boards. My band acctually opened for Cartel a while back in NYC, but enough about that. I hear the BassBone is a great pedal for using 2 basses. You can have to different eq settings for 2 different basses and switch between the 2 by stepping on the button. I know Will Lee and I believe Billy Sheehan endorses them.

The easy answer is buy a 5 string Ray and forget about the silly drop tuning. Just my take on it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll probably go with the Bassbone. It looks like exactly what I was looking for, and sounds the least complicated.

got an embarassingly easy solution i'm gonna try first. gonna get a boss equalizer pedal, and have it where off is one bass, and on is the other.
