What is the best bass synthesizer on the market to go with my new stingray. I'm picking up my new ray on sunday and want to get an awesome effects unit with it. I already know the bass is awesome by itself but I need some effects for the band I play in. Let me know what you think.

PS I will send pics of my new ray when I get it home.

I really like the Ibanez SB7.It's cheap and it doubles as an envelope filter. It's not really a synth but two filters tracking at different frequencies so there is no sub-wave running underneath(which is actually good news for your speakers).I had the much sought after Korg G5 and while it was really good it was too bulky for me and I can't get most of my favorite sounds from the Korg with the SB7.The Akai Deep Impact is really good but is discontinued and very overpriced on Ebay.If you can find one of those cheap enough(under $200) I would go for it.

The best three that I've played(I've probably played them all) are the EH Bass Micro Synth, Akai Deep Impact, and Korg G5. I own the EH and Akai. The smaller pedals by Boss and the other big manufacturers don't track as well and don't sound as fat as these(IMO). There are samples of the EH on the Musicians Friend site. Samples of the Akai are at the Akai Pro site in the upper right corner. The Akai sounds the most like a keyboard synth. The samples for both don't really do the pedals justice. The G5 has 8 waveforms, sounds more like the EH with much more versatility. The Akai and Korg are out of production and Ebay prices are high.

EH Bass Micro Synth is way cool, but takes some tweaking to get it "just so." Cranked up it just puts out this massive wall of insane octaved square wave. My cats have learned to recognise this pedal, and when it comes out of the cupboard they run and hide. :D

Whereas the Akai Deep Impact is programmable - so you just recall your preset and away you go. It's got a bit more versatility than the µSynth, but isn't as adjustable. Still, I love most of the sounds it has, and a little tweak from the factory settings is all it takes.

Only trouble is the Akai is no longer in production and the µSynth is mega expensive! But, IMO they're both worth it if you're after this kind of sound.

I sold a Silicon Graphics quad processor workstation to buy the µSynth, and a JCM800 2x12 50W combo to buy the Deep Impact. Commitment is where it's at!

Boss synths blow chunks, the Digitech is marginally better, and although I haven't tried it I can't imagine the Ibanez is that much better than either of them. Espeically when I can only compare them with what I have!

The Ibanez is analog and is actually two filters tracking at different frequencies rather than using your bass to trigger a digital synth sound like the Boss and the Digitech. The Ibanez is a completely different sounding pedal than those two.I hear it actually sounds more like the EH.
