That was very cool, I must admit the Jazz bass at the start was probably the best sound out of the whole lot for that particular track imho, and the alembic was terrible, fretless was mighty cool. Nice post.

One of my favorite basslines for warming up the fingers. My 10th grade economics teacher taught it to me years ago, and it's still the bassline I use to test out the action on new basses.

Pertyman, always loved Your play! ;)

To me the best sounds fretted SR and Alembic on bridge pup! :)
Jazz Bass little bit disappointed me! :(
I owned one before (sunburst/RW), so I know what that "old" bass can do!

And yes, ...it's all in fingers! :p

Edit: You wrote at the end Alembic neck pickup, but that was mistake right? sounds like bridge to me?

To me it rather proves that no matter what bass is used, a player seems to wring out a certain tone..."it's all in the hands", for the most part.

I've played one bass and amp for one show, then use a different bass and completely different amp the next gig only to have the musicians in the crowd come up to me and say "you still sound the same".

funny how tastes vary. i liked the j at the beginning only. liked the mm's and the alembic at different times. will live very comfortably without ever picking up a warwick. :)

Good stuff! I've been wanting to make a video example contrasting the tones of some of the basic pickup configurations... (and re-do some of my other vidoes, and a few dozen other things as well.)

The "To Do" list is always a lot longer than the "Got Done" list, isn't it? :D

Good mix of basses, and the playing is nice and solid! totally gonna have that song stuck in my head, now :)

Nice job. You are a VERY good player and you chose a great bass line to demonstrate your fingerstyle ability and your ear for picking up the nuances required to play the song authentically. I was especially impressed with your choice of specific note duration.
