Jack,
I've played a Bongo and liked it just fine. I'm just more into the "traditional" bass style. But I'm not closed to the idea of a Bongo.

Bongos are right in the Sterling-Stingray pack for weight. The single H 4 strings have been the lightest on average but basswood varies as much as the other woods MM uses. I've had a couple of H4s that were 8.0-8.4 lbs, others that were over 9 lbs. I also had a beautiful 2005 Ltd Buttercream HH4 Bongo for a short while. I loved the finish and the dot fingerboard markers and of course it played beautifully but it was over 10 lbs!

Maybe I'm just young, but I want a heavy bass. I'd like one about 10 or 12 pounds... but that's just because I like the feel.

The BFR Redwood SR's are nice & light, some more so than others, I think. One dealer weighed one for me over the phone & it was actually under 8 lbs. I had a different one, and it too was very light, but I didn't weigh it.

I emailed this dealer again, because it was bothering me not remembering the weight of the one he weighed for me over the phone. 7.4 lbs. That's the lightest EBMM I've ever heard of.

It wasn't too surprising to me, based on how light mine felt, but again, I didn't weigh that one & don't have it anymore.

guess you better find one thats 1.1 pounds lighter,
if that "makes all the difference"...but that wont be the end of it

7.4 lbs  that's extremely light, a good option for your back.
