For C standard, I know John Petrucci uses the "not even slinky", but would the beefy slinky's still be good enough for tension accordance with C standard(.12s are kind of ridiculous)....or would the beefy's just be good for a full step down?

either way, i'm going to find out regardless once i pick up a set of the beefy's....i'm just posting this to get a quick response from anyone out there before i go ahead with it.

You'd be surprised! The cool thing about strings is that they are so inexpensive for a pack to try out.

Even if you prefer a different gage set, you then have some extra strings, or just wear them out practicing.

If fact it is GOOD to practice on different gage strings (and necks). It builds dexterity, strength and agility, producing an overall better "hand/fingers"!!
