Thanks fellas. I thought about competing with Tommy ... but hey, I'd be saving for several years to put away that kind of dough ;)

There may in fact be a few mods for this guy. Gonna play it a bit and try a few things out.

Rich- still waiting for the Lawrences for my other Morse! They were pretty back ordered and catching up from NAMM. Soon.

Gotta say, while I love all the EBMMs, the Morse really just fits me like a glove.

Jason,

I did a quick search for Lawrence pickups and there are two different sites, one with the man named Bill Lawrence and the other with someone else (I guess a former business partner or something)

Which site is the proper place for these pickups?

Bill Lawrence: Musician, Designer, Craftsman

Long story- the guy above is the actual guy, the other guy is his former business partner who acquired the trademark and still sells pickups on old designs.

He (BL) has been designing pickups forever, pretty much everybody out there has learned from him at some point and he's designed for the big guitar manufacturers at one time or another. Biography aside, he makes a wide range of pickups and does some amazing stuff, he's just not much of a marketer (as you can see by the site).

I think lots of people make good stuff these days, especially humbuckers. But I think for noiseless single coils he's got the best designs (I have the L200s in my AL and soon my Morse), with the Dimarzio Area 67's a close second. He's got a brand of regular singles, "Keystones", that are excellent too- not noiseless, but much quieter than other singles I've heard. (Something to do with hysteresis and micro-cracks in the pickup windings around the corners of the bobbin. Call Bill and ask, he's very chatty. His knowledge is way over my head, I've learned quite a bit from talking to him.)

I've seen snippets of an interesting new design he's got coming out soon- a single coil (the "microcoil") that's noiseless and very versatile, different from existing designs. I'm really interested to give that a shot when it's in production.

Anyhoo, that's the scoop.

Ok ... had a little fun with the new Morse last night ... threw in a set of Axis pickups:

Sweet! The neck p'up is much different, lots more treble and less of the rolled-off tone sound you get from the Morse neck p'up. The bridge isn't dramatically different, a little more sizzle. Still getting used to them but think I'll keep 'em in there a while :)

Jason,

It looks really cool with the new pickups in there.

Thanks for the info on Bill Lawrence, his site is in definite need of some tweaking, navigating it is horrible and trying to find a place to order is ridiculous.

It was weird to read how StewMac was selling Lawrence pickups but that they were made by the other person who acquired the trademarks, even Dimebag is on YouTube touting his L500's as Lawrence's from StewMac I believe.

Did the Axis bridge add any highs to the new Morse, or is it still mid heavy?

Rich
