I've fallen in love with EBMM 5 strings. I'm trading another bass in for potentially a decent amount, and I've been looking at a Ray 5 H or Bongo 5 HH.

Should I just go for it and get the Bongo?!

Never played one...but I already have a Ray 5.

Up to you mate, but you can't go wrong with either - however your existing Ray 5 will already do most of what the SR5H will do.

I've just taken delivery of a Bongo 5HHp from Zak Duarte - and it is a very different beast - I think if you like the SR5 you'll love a Bongo 5HH. I haven't been able to stop playing Motown and fusion stuff since I got it.

It is being debuted at a friendly jam session tonight - can't wait :) it will also be NBD'd (to me) with pics soon.

Sorry for the partial hijack - I would say Bongo!

I just got my Bongo 4HH from Bass Central yesterday and love it. I can only imagine what kindo f a monster it would be if it was a 5 string. I say go for the Bongo!

Yeah...I think this is a no-brainer. A Stingray 5H will only give you one sound that you don't have already with your current 2010 Stingray 5HS - that is, the bridge pickup in Series mode. For my money, you can kind of get close to the series bridge humbucker sound just by using the bridge pickup in position 2 (single coil + phantom) and boosting the bass knob.

Whereas, the Bongo will give you something completely different and will give you endless hours of experimenting and exploration and will probably blow your mind! :) It's a whole other animal.

Tough choice in some ways as a Ray5 is not a true Stingray5. I own both SR5 and Bongo but they are both single H models. I would have a hard time choosing but for me, I think the SR5 would win by a hair. You can't go wrong either way. The biggest factor would be the pickup config.

Looks like the trade isnt going ahead. Not sure about sending a bass to a store ive not used before and the replies coming back/phonecalls are a little slow.
