I posted a pic in the "Pics of your guitar" thread -- but I finally got around to contacting EBMM about it. I was curious if it was a one-off and really wanted to know what color 97 is. Here's what I got back:

Thank you for playing Music Man.

We don't have detailed records for exactly why or for whom the guitar was built, but 97 is the color code we used in the past for custom or unique colors.

Unfortunately, we don't have any more information about this particular guitar other than that it was produced for our Artist Relations department.
So maybe built for someone and circulated after that? Hard to say. I still wish I knew what the factory called the color. Oh well.

My only gripe is the finished neck. I'm pondering having RS Guitar works strip the playing area of the neck and do an oil and wax finish. Other than that, this has become one of my absolute favorite guitars. Possibly ever.

Nice and congrats, honestly did not know or do not remember a KOA 25th, very nice snag.

Reminds me of the 6 Axis Super Sports done in KOA years ago and the necks on those were sealed due to the neck being mahogany, I would not strip the neck but that is MO

Congrats!!

I would bet it is mahogany, again this looks just like a couple of limited ASS editions that had mahogany necks which were sealed, would not screw with the neck , again MO

Fair. It just makes me a little sad. All necks should be oil and wax finish.

I used to be of the same opinion after I discovered EBMM back in the day. However, lately sealed necks haven't really bothered me. I have a few guitars with sealed necks and still enjoy the heck out of playing them. Just my thoughts on it. One other thing. @jlf599 if you don't mess with the neck and ever want to part with that guitar hit me up :)

Yeah I’ve had a JPX and JP6 with finished necks. Can’t say I really notice any negative effect on the playability and feel of the neck. Like you said it IS an EBMM!
