There's been a lot of flak about the RPS strings on other forums, saying the extra wrapping is not necessary, that string breakage rarely occurs at the ball end etc etc...

While some may be true, or not, there is ONE case at least where RPS definately helps in addressing string breakages and the occasional wrap slippage (rare, but it does happen, apparently)

This is the application:

(yes yes, I know that's a Les Paul... bear with me, ya?)

There are many reasons to top wrap or not to top wrap. Regardless, if you DO top wrap, look at the string angle at the tailpiece. See how many angles the string ends up bending over?

I tried using conventionally wrapped strings, and I noticed that that area is the weakest, and I have broken some strings in time in that area mainly because of the stress exerted on those angles.

RPS saved that. The extra wrapping, which is also longer than normal, tends to wrap around the tailpiece, and softens the break angle of the strings. So, not only does this stop the strings from breaking more, they also tune better, since there's minimal slippage.

I don't know if this was one reason why BP decided to come up with this product, but even if it wasn't, know that it works wonders for this stringing method for Les Pauls.

Thanks BP & gang!!!!!!
