Did you fall over while being shot (photographed) on the lawn...and who's lawn were you on? :D

These are questions that you could ask Dude on any given day. And he's equally likely to have no specific answers. ;)

Nahhh reconstruction of events is fairly easy to recunstruct:

1) Look for matchbook covers from strip joints in pocket.
2) Check for bail bond receipts in wallet.
3) Look for no-tell motel receipts.
4) See if underwear is on backwards or not.
5) Count the dead silverfish tossed around on floor.

Down to a science, eh Steve?

That's a perfectly good process. Well done!

I had the same problem on my brand new stealth Bongo when I got it. The volume knob was sitting at a funny angle, but I just carefully bent it back to straight and it's been fine ever since.

Ok, this is what i *think* causes those bent shafts (except the unfortunate accidents): Bass gets cosy in case, ready for rough handling...
bongo_case_bass_back.jpg

During handling, the Bongo can slide forward in the case, and see the pad that should press down the body. If the case was fully closed, the pad would also press the volume pot back.

The solution is simple: Put something in front of the upper horn, and the Bongo will stay put.

That's the route I go when using my HSC (road gigs more than an hour's drive); putting a towel in front of the upper horn.

Other than that, I use a heavy duty gig bag for local gigs, and the SKB Bass Safe for air travel (holds a bass in the gig bag).

No bent knob so far.

That makes really good sense, and neatly explains why a number of us have received brand-new basses with bent knobs. Have you tried removing any of that foam? My bass lives far from my house, so I can't readily get to it. Since the cases appear to be standard SKBs with the EBMM logo molded in, I wonder if the factory has the ability to alter the foam so that this can't happen.... Maybe you consider yourself anal, but hey...if the case is working as designed and actually causing the damage to the instrument in the process, well, it seems to me that that's a bit of an issue, no?

I have heard good things about the bass Safe, but I haven't tried it. Does it hold up well when handled by air cargo loaders? Is it long enough for a Bongo 5? Does it fit a heavily padded gig bag? Is it heavy?

It's a must-have for those who can't afford to have a custom-built ATA flight case! I used mine to bring back my newly-aquired Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass from NYC a couple of weeks ago (short-lived ownership; Bongo-spoiled; another thread). The case itself weighs a hair over 13#; barely noticeable.

The case was virtually unscathed (SFO-JFK-SFO), and the bass came back in showroom condition. My gig bag is one of those MF heavy-duty ones with the double-pocket, and the whole thing fit snugly into the Bass Safe (which has foam insulation at each end of the two-piece case).

Now as far as a B5 fitting in there...I'm doubting it (at least in a heavy-duty gig bag); it is a snug fit.

I have thought about modifying the case, but haven't gotten around to it. I think it's some kind of cell foam under the plush, and a decent heat gun together with something to compress the foam with (piece of wood or something) should do the trick.
But since stuffing the polishing cloth in the gap in front of the upper horn also works, I don't know if I'll ever get around to modding the case.

Hi

Im having a real problem with my high end electric bass. First off I set it face down on my kitchen table.. then I let it slip to the ground in between sets and then when taking pictures of it it fell over in the hard compacted soil.

any suggestions?
