Eden sounds pretty freakin fine!

I've never really liked ampeg. I sorta dug on markbass, for a while, then I actually tried one and I got my head straight.

GK sounds real nice too.

If I could just own any head though, it would probably be a GBE 1200 or a WT 1250/800

...or maybe a WP 100 and a 1205 power amp.

I just picked up a traveler 210 Markbass cab to pair with my incoming Markbass combo. Out of curiousity i hooked it up through my 700RB GK head and gives a pretty mean tone. May be trying out different combos of GK and Markbass soon. JOSH

I recently auditioned an TC Electronics RH-450 rig; head and two 2X10 cabs. I wished I could have pushed this rig live, but it did sound fabulous in the living room. The RH-450 sounded a bit more livelier than the LMII. I'll let the RH prove itself over time before purchasing one.......for now, I'm happy with my LMII / Bongo combo.

I've been using a WT550 and a pair of Bag End S15-Ds for a bunch of years now and like what I get. However, I'd be lying if I didn't admit missing the tone of my old G-K head.

We recently set up a RH-450 with a RS210 and RS212 at work and it was pretty cool, although I wouldn't use many of the extra features.

As you can see from my signature I use Genz-Benz amplification. My rig consists of a GBE1200 head with a GB810T-UB cabinet. I've been playing through G-B gear for the past 3 1/2 years and couldn't be happier with it.

I also use a X2 XDR-95 wireless system in conjunction with my three EBMM basses. Two of which are Stingray 5 H, and the other is a Sterling 5 HH LE.

I'm not a slapper or a picker. I play full out with my fingers and this gear never fails to draw attention. The combination of EBMM and G-B is just about as good as it gets when it comes to product quality and customer support.

I am confused by the above post, CFA. Breaking the input made you scrap the amp???????

Yeah, pretty much. I don't really wanna screw around with it, and I've been contemplating something new (Better) for a while. I kinda want to get out of combos now, and if the Kustoms sound good to my ears I'll be getting a set up since its within my price range.

Hope that clears things up a little.:p

I am a Markbass/Bergantino guy here but I have to say I was real impressed with Pyschicpets LM500/Hydrive Hartke rig....(with the horn off and the brite switch on)

I've had excellent results with Ampeg, GK, and (currently) Markbass.

I really liked the GK sound (1001RB-II 2x10 combo + RBH115 cab) with the Bongo. Ultimately, though, I found I prefer Ampeg amps.

For the last 12 or so years I owned a cheap Ampeg 'Blue Diamond' series B-50R Rocket Bass 1x12 combo. This little combo sounded fantastic for recording and practice! Very B15N-like with a wonderful, musical midrange. Always a blast to play through (felt right with anything from a soft touch to very aggressive playing. The downside was that it was a 50w solid state amp and no where's near loud enough to hang with a drummer.

For my preferences the best possible choice for recording would be to find the right Ampeg B15N. I've played several - all were great sounding, two stood out as exceptional. Magic with the Bongo's! With this said I only have room for one amp and a B15N isn't loud enough for any/every occasion and, played loud, isn't clean enough for some applications (same reasons the B-50R is gone now).

I recently had opportunity to demo a Markbass Jeff Berlin 1x15 combo and found that it sounds very much like a loud, clean B15N, I bought it a few days later and It's working out even better than I'd hoped it would. I also picked up a Tech 21 VT Bass pedal (character series) for a pushed B15N sound and it covers this sound perfectly (sounds like the Markbass set flat and adds just a little upper midrange and touch of breakup when I dig in). My Bongo's have never sounded better! :)

I have been using a Thunderfunk 550,with an Avatar Neo 410 cab for the last 2 years, and have been completely happy with the combination. The amp is light, and gets a great usuable tone just using the Timbre and Enhance knobs. My tone controls stay dead flat, don't need them. I used to be one of those that was always shopping for a better amp every few months,or looking for the next best thing. The Thunderfunk cured me of that.

I play my Sterling H through a Mesa Boogie 12" Walkabout Scout Combo (there is also a 15" version available). It sounds AMAZING (and my back absolutely loves it). I've also got a 12" Walkabout extension in case I need to move some more air, but I've played some fairly large venues, and the combo alone has always got the job done with class. I've used this setup to play blues, classic rock--everything from AC/DC and Nazareth to the Clash, Sex Pistols, The Beatles, The Stones and Steely Dan (not all in the same band...).

The amp is very versatile. You can dial up as much tube grit as you want, even at low volumes, with the gain control. If you're interested, you can read up on this little monster here:

Actually, a brand that sounds very good with EBMMs is EBS. They are pretty rare though. I also liked GK and Ampeg. I actually disliked MarkBass  *ducks for cover*.

I can related to that. Frankly, I hated them the first time I tried them. But then I started to better understand the tone controls and did seriously compare them 1:1 to other amps, especially Ampeg SVT and my SWR rig. And that was really an interesting experience: Switching from MarkBass to others, the sound seems to be "nicer" and "more hifi", but switching back from others to MarkBass is as if a thick curtain is removed and the bass is more "direct" and "alive".
However, I have to admit I rarely see any high end GK, Genz Benz or Mesa bass amps / cabs in my neck of the woods...

I am on the GK bandwagon as well (see sig), but that Markbass VLE knob is quite a cool thing to have. I suggest trying it.

Am I the first to propose Aguilar?

I use the AG500, together with one 12" and 4 * 10" cabinet, and absolutely lovin' the sound, as well as the flexibility. For smaller venues I only bring the 12" and the head, for the bigger I can add the 4 * 10" (which is seriously heavy btw).

The AG500 head has the tube like growl, but it's solid state. I use it because it's warmer and 'bigger' then e.g. EBS or Markbass, but more versatile compared to Ampeg or GK.

After three pages you can probably only conclude that testing is the key to success, what might work for me can perhaps not work for you.. Get your gear into the music store, and try!
