Thanks for all the advice, I was looking at the GK stuff too. What I really want is to accentuate the tone of the Stingray and bring some more fullness into the sound of it. What about some (if any) hybrid or fully tube amps out there for something round. And while I'm at it, what's the word on Ampegs, svt3pro?

Sweet pics Doc.

Here's some Ampeg:

When I was shopping for a rig last year, Aussie Mark gave me some excellent advice: "Get as much power as you can afford."
I did, and I'm very happy. If I need to, I can add another cab and get more out of the head, but right now it's running about 960 watts into a 1000 watt Eden cab at 8 ohms. Headroom is a very good thing! And it's plenty warm, or round, or however you want to put it...it's got serious bottom!

Fortunately for us, EBMMs sound pretty damned good through anything! GK, Ashdown, Markbass, whatever, they all make some killer stuff just...just go with what sounds good to you!

(watch out for Carvin, though..they seem to have some reliability concerns ;) )

Happy hunting!

Of all the advice I received (and I got alot!), yours was by far the most helpful! If I ever get down there to the Antipodes, or southeast Asia, I have to buy you many beers!

(or if you ever come to Disneyworld!)

Cheers!

When you find your sound then you will know. Until then you will search. plus spend money. I have owned several basses and amps when I hear what I sound like recorded I don't always know what I am playing at the time.

I sound like me is what I have decided.

You will sound like you.

IMHO

Well fearofcups, you've had just about every possible reccomendation to whet your appetite. Let me add just one more. Have you tried a Mesa Boogie Walkabout Scout. I love it for so many reasons: small combo/huge sound/lightweight/ quality of sound. The icing on the cake for me though is the ability to remove the amp from the combo so that you can use all 300watts (@4ohms) with other cabs. In any application I use the combo I have yet to find a situation where I need to use other cabs, but it's nice to know that the option is there should I need to use it in the future. Happy lookin!:)

Trace Elliot and Ashdown (their practical successor) sound EXCELLENT with StingRays. The punch from the instrument really shines through with these designs, and they have some of the best EQ's on the market today. Trace gear is going for some excellent prices on ebay these days, but I think the market is starting to pick up as people realize how good they are, and that they last a long time too.

I second the Ashdown emotion.....with the new Bongo it helps get a killing tone for sure. Am devoted to them - well apart from the Hartke cab...

Have heard dodgy things about the new Trace. Local shop here has sent all theirs back. I think it was something to do with the facias rather than electronics though.

Thanks for the recommendation on the Scout. I've been wanting to try that for a long time, and the portability is a great addition. That new GK Fusion 550 looks good though, sparks my interest...
