For the past 6 months I've been having a blast w/the Boss ME-70.

It has a Volume Pedal/Expression Pedal and comes with the Kitchen

sink. I link the Ernie Ball 6165 Volume/Pan Pedal as well as the Ernie

Ball Wah. Played through a 40W Fender deluxe and a Marshall Class

5W. The Amps EQ's are set clean @12 O'clock and the tone comes

from the Guitars controls and the boss Me-70. It's user friendly and

my analog pedals are collecting dust. Good luck !

yeah I did - interesting !!! Sounds a great little unit for a really low price.

Yeah, the only problem is: ALL assembly required. No problem for a guy like me with an electronics background, but the average player would probably want to take the components to their local amp tech to assemble it.

I have a crappy amp that has the worst overdrive effect ever. It has decent clean though. I want to play Green Day, and I was going to buy a new amp at the end of the year, but I thought a pedal would work too. So, what pedal would be best to get the Rock (Green Day) sound? The Boss DS-10 looks good, is it good for the rock sound? Thanks :)

I'd try to get a good amp first.

Check out this demo of the Suhr Riot...thing sounds insane! But yes, I think ultimately a good amp is key...at least a good amp with a good clean channel.

You want to sound like a Marshall, get a Marshall... Not a big fan of using pedals.. (pedals are supposed to enhance the sound, not give you the sound)

Not everyone has the space for a Marshall, much less neighbors that are appreciative of one.

I used to have a 100w Plexi, and while it sounded glorious, I could rarely use it because it was just too loud and didn't sound good at lower volumes, even with an attenuator.

Lots of different pedals for different sounds. A few that I like for "Marshall" sounds are:
Wampler Pinnacle II
GGG Brown Sound In a Box 2
Tech21 Sans Amp TriAC (if you have an effects loop or a power amp)

They all sound a bit different though.

There are no rules for using pedals. If you look at someone like David Gilmour, his sound comes mainly from using a clean, good quality amplifier, with pedal distortion in front of it.

If I said the sun would rise tomorrow I am sure someone would give me grief about it...

No one is giving you grief, just suggesting an alternative viewpoint.

Marshall's, whilst being great, aren't for everyone due to the space you need to give them in order to get the best sound from them.

Plus, some people prefer to get the overdrive sounds from pedals.

Well I think of pedals the way a painter uses different colors to create. Sometimes it is great to plug straight in and then their are times you want to experiment for different effects.Hendrix, The Edge, Andy Summers are just a few who are really masterful at extracting some great sounds with them.Sometimes the right pedal can make the whole song, though I am not a huge fan till this day REMs What the Frequency Kenneth where Buck uses a tremelo pedal I believe makes that whole song.

I would definitely save up to buy a decent amp before buying any pedals, their have been some really good ones stated already and most come with a distorted setting. I see to many guys though on all forums trying to chase a certain players tone who should be past that stage unless they are in a cover band. Finding your own tone and sound is what separates all players, and I cant understand guys who are 40 still trying to sound like Vanhalen in 78.
