Hey guys I'm new too the forum, I'm basically here as a fan of the Stingray sound, as I do not own one myself. I do however own the cheapo version of it, which is made by OLP.

As far as I know, the only difference is the cheaper electronics and wood that it uses, and for my second bass, I am very happy with it!

Anyways, my question is, I'm looking for a Overdrive/Distortion pedal and a Envelope Filter, or maybe an auto bass wah. I'm thinking that some of you guys might some experience with these, and maybe you could recommend me a pedal?

Yes I have one of them and it is excellent. I also have a Qtron which is excellent too, but not as 'extreme'. Plus, different basses pretty much sound the same through it.

I like using my Stingray through a TS9 Tube Screamer, modded of course, with the 808 Plus Mod

Sounds awesome, adds ALOT of mid-range punch, sucks some of the low end bass out, but thanks to the 3 band eq, just add some bass when you stomp on the pedal.

Tried my bass through a standard guitar cry baby the other day and it sounded awesome. Not sure how the bass versions compare.

I'd be interested also in trying the bootzilla pedal.

Ive been looking around and some great pedals I have found are Big Muff Pi and the Mini Qtron. Has anyone tried these and can you tell me the pro's and con's of them?

I had a Boss Auto-Wah and hated it. It sounded amazing at the music store but terrible on a gig as the volume cut out huge no matter how I set it.

I use a MXR Auto-Q for funk and a AHX Bassballs also from time to time. The MXR is amazing for Flea's Higher Ground and Tell me Baby sound as well as Lenny Kravitz' Fly Away. I use it on every gig.

As Baird already mentioned, a pedal can sound absolutely great when testing it or at rehearsal but ruin your sound in a live situation.

For auto-wah, I had a EHX XO Q-Tron+ on my board, which I recently replaced with a Moog MF-101. While the XO Q-Tron+ (which I prefer over the standard Q-Tron+, because its more aggressively voiced) is absolutely fine for bass, the MF-101 is a different class, can acheive more of a synth tone, cuts through even in busy and loud band situations and IMO sounds better overall.

However, after trying quite some effects myself, I find it is very hard to give "general" recommendations on effects other than technical notes and personal preferences, because it generally comes down to what you like, the sound you try to acheive and what works for you.

fwiw I have found that the HBE Hematoma is a great OD and/or boost pedal that doesn't mess with the natural sound of my SUB Stingray..

I found that a compressor was one of useful pedals if used correctly. I really like my blowtorch also for some very cool sounding fuzz ...great to kick on when the guitar player is soloing!

The particular voicing of a Stingray, I have found is really well suited to effects. My SR5 and SR4 sound amazing with filters, overdrives, phasers, and wah. I had another brand of 5 string bass that sounded ok by itself but really got muddy and lifeless when using effects pedals.

The bass makes a big difference in how an effect pedal will ultimately react and sound!
