Best strings for alternative rock??

Hi,

can someone give me a tip on what string thickness to use for playing alternative rock like Feeder, switchfoot, the killers or silverchair?
I mostly play chords and a few solo parts.
I'm using a gibson SG standard with 010 ernie strings but I'm not sure if its good enough for playing open or power chords.

any advise would be great!

The best strings to play are the ones you're most comfortable with. If you want a noticeable change in tone from your strings, my experience says you need to go up at least one gauge. But I went from 1 and a half (from 9s to 10-52s - why? because that's what worked for me).

So, if I am you - I'm going to 11s (Beefy Slinkys). I think that SG has a shorter scale length than my EBMMs so I would put 11s on it and see how that goes - but, you know, it's up to you. Experiment and see what you like.

thanx for the advice

its just that 010 strings have more buzz against my frets, thicker strings do not. (i've tried different setups already).
on the other hand, 010 have more sustain than thicker strings( see my dillemma?)
but I think I'm going to try 011 for some time like you said.
