I have all my guitars set so that you can only dive not pull up but thinking of returning my lukes back to steves set up and as I have a heavy hand usually push chords up. For that reason Im thinking of a tremstabilizer but have never used one before. I'd like to be able to use the bar for a more bigsby-ish subtle vibrato but wondering does one wreck the smooth feel?

Not sure what that Trem looks like but maybe adding additional springs is what you want and requires no drilling.

What do you mean you "push chords up"?

If I mute strings or have palm on trem I tend to push chords sharp. I have 3 springs already. Trem is standard on recent lukes

He means resting your hand on the floating bridge and pushing it sharp.

Personally, I have no experience with stabilisers but it didn't take me long to get used to the floating bridge without pushing it sharp. Obviously, I'm gonna say give it a little time. :)
