Holy smokes-----I go away for a few days and look what happens. Jeez, glad I missed it. Even I have to remind myself when I post sometimes---"This is Big Poppas House!"

I also caught the first part of the JP thread and missed the train wreck bit. This has already been stated several times, but I'd like to repeat what others have said - this is far and away the greatest corporate-sponsored forum around, and one of the best guitar forums, period. I'd like for it to stay that way.

I really do enjoy coming here to "hang out", and thanks (again!) to BP and company for keeping this community alive and kickin'.

I honestly didn't think the JP thread was that bad. I used to moderate on the civictype-r.co.uk forum and that place was a nightmare. 20,000 users and 10 mods. At least here, if you have an arguement, words of more than one syllable and four letters are used. People also know how to spell and to use paragraphs as well!!!

Trust me, even in the JP thread, this is still a place of peace and tranquility.

And can I order one now? ;)

No its not. The JP thread changed the rules here. Just watch.

By time I saw the thread in the first place it was already locked. My forum involvement on any of the forums I'm on is sporadic at best so I tend to miss days at a time... sometimes weeks at a time. I sent BP a pm... I hadn't been her much since he started posting regularly... I didn't get the memo. Sorry about that.

My point is....

Since I do miss so much at times, I lose a lot of context. Threads are often titled something that makes sense if you've been here, and can seem like something you've not been a part of, thus not realizing it's a must read.

I'd hate to over step my bounds again so I'd like to converse about the new rules and the nature of how cool it is that we get the sneak peeks that we do.

BP, I read that you mentioned people get one or two cracks at thier opinions and after that deleted. In the big JP thread there seemed to be some statements, even repeated ones, of dislike of one thing or another that didn't seem to be related to the problem (judging by your responses to them.)

I'll try and illustrate what I'm getting at. My playing style loves the direct mounted pickups. I like to put my pinky in the hole. lol. My first thought on the pickup rings was related to this. Plus, I think the direct mount look is very cool. Would commenting on how a reaction to a sneak peek based on those little things be against the new rules or even previous ones?

I'm not being nitpicky or smart. Distinctions in one mind can be blurred in another, and just because I know when I comment on something what I mean, doensn't mean that meaning is made very clear. We often type with assumptions made about who understands our context etc.

I ask all this because I like talking about guitars. It's easy to go too far without realizing it because we don't react to change well so often. With that, I really like the proto.... there are things I would change, but it's not mine, and there are things I'd change about the exisiting JP model too, and I play it and love it.

I got the impression that one of the biggest problems was related to the comments that kept getting the same response or (generally) "this is a supplement to the line, not a replacement." I was amazed at how the responses continued to seemingly ignore that very key statement.

It is way too cool that this place exists as it does, and when I read that thread I thought... "Oh great, so much for the cool sneak peeks."

I indeed do want to protect this place, so I hope to be able to fully understand what is permissable and what isn't. Everything seems to be restoring nicely, but communication can help ensure that it stays that way. It really seems that we are fortunate that a bad apple thread didn't spoil the whole forum. Thanks for the patience on that.

Lets not dredge up too much. None of the Mods have a problem with a well thought out critique. Its the tenor of the critique and then the constant defense of the critique. I understand your concern with the pick up rings. Play one and see if it works, if not I know I have something that will.

Cool...

Oh the pickup rings will not deter me from buying I can tell you that... lol My Jackson and Sabre both have pickup rings and it's far from the end of the world . Money is the great detriment to me buying the guitars I want. lol

Although, as a Music (guitar) Major, I can use my student loan to buy a guitar 100% legitimately. Should some grants fall in the right place, I might know where I'll spend any extra cash. :)

Can't we all just get along?

It only rock and roll . . . it ain't supposed to be so serious. Just have fun, and be mindful of what you type (MYSELF INCLUDED). Big Poppa is watching . . .

Thanks for the killer guitars and hard work! We love you all.

MESAVOX-

Gotta love the Student Grants working out to buy new guitars...

Well, a lot of things have to fall in line, but I have checked and double checked the legalities, and as far as it goes, I'm a professional guitarist (I get paid to teach non majors, receive scholarship money to play the guitar for the school etc.) so a guitar is a school supply. :)

I still have to eat, buy gas, pay insurance, etc. But there is no doubt that going to school to play guitar has been the best decision of my life thus far since I've not been able to get something going enough to get out of the middle of nowhere here where I can make some money. Now I have contacts, more knowledge, and a Trans Siberian Orchestra concert that kicked my butt back into gear after too many years of feeling sorry for myself.... People who actually matter in the biz are finally finding out that I exist, even if it is a bit low key yet at this point. lol.

I'm not the next John Petrucci by any means, but it's exciting to look ahead and feel that I can actually do what I love for a living instead of keep trying to make things I hate work against the tide.

The other fun part of school... Last fall I shocked most everyone by playing For The Love Of God. lol. I've never seen so many dropped jaws in a group of musicians. Most of them are singers and never really thought about someone playing guitar beyond a classical or Jason Maraz type context. lol A friend of mine videoed it for me so I'm working it into my portfolio. I was really nervous to put it on youtube... and even more nervous to show it to the JP forum. LOL. I've not had the nerve to present it at either of the major Vai forums. lol

Still, if it wasn't for college, even a small one way out here, I'd not have had the opportunity to really perform that in such a setting and have gotten feedback from people way better than I.

The only thing I wonder is why I waited to so long... or why it took that long to realize the benifit going to school here would have. Oh well, 29 is still young isn't it? :)

That is so cool... I play at my church for the Worship Team and I absolutly love it. Just sharing my love of music with people is amazing... when I'm playing the world disappears and it's such a release of everything inside me.
From what I can tell you are displaying a great sense of humility. Which i totally relate. People tell me all the time that "Yer so GOOD!" or "Yer Amazing on that Thing!" and I look and say t'hank you but feel as though i could do so much more... I totally respecty humility and humblness is players...
I love playing so much that I ask to give up my week off every month (as my worship pastor doesn't want me to get burnt out) and i would play all day evertyday if i could make a living out of it...

so best of luck with your schooling... keep up the hard work and my you be blessed with the opportunity to do this on a grander level.

^ you are from guymon? what college are you attending?

OPSU

The instructor of instrumental music is a big Jazz guy from Rutgers.... He's a pretty killer trumpet player. He and the chair of the department have really started turning the music department around. Before the big shutdown of the department a few years ago, the focus was on marching band. Now the focus is on teaching music. We don't even have a marching band. lol

I used to play on a church Worship Team. School makes that pretty impossible now, and my church attendence is basically nice long conversations with friends every chance we get.... You learn a thing or two about the Apostolic church's need to meet in houses breaking bread, rather than the method we are used to when you take fellowship any second of the day you can get it.

I learned a lot playing Hillsong tunes... and a LOT playing with church people. Some are musos, some just want to be there even though they are certainly NOT musos. LOL. I learned a lot of patience doing that. lol Plust, a lot of different styles. You know, You can pretend to be Luke and Neal Schon all day long when soloing to a slow worship song... lol. And the Lukeisms work all over the chord work. If you can even fake your way through Georgy Porgy, you can play any contemporary praise and worship song on the planet. lol I had a lot of fun doing that sort of thing.

I couldn't remember my login, but I finally found the link to the Youtube thing if anyone wants to see my thinning hair and Camo JP... lol

What I really can't wait for is to tell everyone what gear I used. lol

Yeah...we Play a lot of Hillsong, United: Hillsong, and when I lead worship I tend to go with some old school Twila Paris (is Exalted) with a new school flair, and Lincoln Brewster and Chris Tomlin...
I think I've played at one time or another every hillsong song out there. Sunday morning we're doing a song that is all about Emotting and Retarding out in certain spots... I broke it down last night at practice and just let loose... it was fun...
My Church is rather small and mostly older people who have had amazing walks with the Lord... and when I started playing I started with my Acoustic and Kept it super clean... and when I busted out my Half Stack and pedal board they nearly flipped when I started doing solo/melody line work... now they love it...

And when I play for the youth group... we just lay down the rules and rip...

BTW... you're Video Fricken Ripped... I've gotta learn how to play that...

Let's see if I can get close to your gear...

You were playing an Ibanez Petrucci Picaso Camo with a bit of Delay and Chorus... with a slight overdrive.... My guess is you were playing through a VOX AC30...
