Hi!

I had this special occasion to try out several special Music Man basses:

1- Sting Ray BFR Redwood
2- Big AL
3- Sting Ray 5 BFR Rosewood
4- Sterling BFR
5- 25th Anniversary 4 strings
6- 25th Anniversary 5 strings
7- Sting Ray HH Stealth
8- Sting Ray 30th Anniversary
9- Sting Ray 5 strings 20th Anniversary
10- Sting Ray Dargie Delight HS

I took a video camera with me to see and listen back home...it's not a professional thing (I'm just noodling around the bass and audio is from camera) but I'm sure some of you might find it interesting.

I'm sorry it's in Italian but you can skip the talk...

I think they all are incredible instruments...I will give you a very short review...if you have some specific questions just ask!

lightest bass: Sterling BFR
best 5 string: 20th anniversary
most agressive sound: Sting Ray Stealth
most singing sound: BFR Redwood
most versatile: Big AL
biggest sound: Sting Ray 30th
best overall: 25th Anniversary (HSS configuration suggested)

It's a good think I speak bass. I too could make full sense of it. Specifically with regard to the "biggest sound - Stingray 30th." :D

Thanks Andrea!

Wow. Where did you find all those basses?!

well...that's the lucky part of being an endorser...

T-bone: yes, that confirmed again that mahogany is a personal favourite on basses.

Rockon!
: you can hear my Bongo comping the opening background track...

Grand Wazoo: I took my occasion to buy the Redwood. It has the kind of singing quality, what I call "the voice", that I look on my instrument. And it's so good looking (ok it also has the best retro-cool super mojo brown leather hardcase...)

Also personal favourites are the Big AL and the 25th...if you can afford it buy a 25th HSS, if you can't or you are super funky buy the big AL...

I'll buy a big al white/tort for sure in the next future...or a 25th Hss-rosewood, they are superbe instruments.

Another interesting thing is the maple/rosewood comparison on the 25th: the maple board has a quicker attack and more definition, the rosewood is sweeter, has slighlty slower attack and more low-midrange.

Infatti il 25th e' esattamente quello che aspiro comprare, l'ho gia' provato, ed in particlare ho deciso di prendere quello HSS a 5 corde manico in acero. Come vedi in questa foto sono rimasto molto impresso.

Well, this was a fun thread from a while back that I just stumbled into. Great sampling of some cool basses. Interesting conclusions, too.
