Funny you should say that, I didn't think so until I saw it in the flesh- but it does have a reddish/brownish chocolatey vibe that I find very cool and makes it unique compared to all the burgundy basses that I've seen.
WOW,WOW,WOW- this finish has metal flake in it, you can't see it in the pictures that Brandt sent me but the flake is a fine grain type, not as big and flashy as the flake in a blue dawn, but it's there and gives the color immense depth. That plus the chocolately rosewood neck just makes this one beautiful bass, my hat's off to Musicman for the high quality(finish) at this price point, just spectacular to behold.
The sound- I have two HH five string Bongos that sound the same so I figure this one (HS) will sound a little different,.... but this one sounds a lot different. I've only played it a short amount of time but one thing that keeps coming back to me is that it sounds a lot like a ...... rickenbacker (gasp). I'm not sure what's going on here, but there's a raspy/growly character to the mids that's not there with my HH's, and all my Bongo's have the same strings(EB). Maybe it's the rosewood neck or the single coil or the combination, but it's really cool and I like it a lot. I haven't had much time to do better pics but I will in the future.
