BFR case question

I've flown my JP to Korea and back checked and had no problems whatsoever. I'm moving to Korea again on Sept 1 and will be checking my 25th's as well.

I'm not exactly sure about every airline service, but Korean Air has ALWAYS been very good about keeping my instrument safe. My guitar doesn't come down the typical luggage ramp, it gets hand delivered to the side.

I guess it depends on the airline company.

QUESTION: For those who have checked their guitars. Do they ever require you to fill out a form which declares the value of the instrument you're checking? Because Korean Air does.

I've checked guitars five times and never been asked to fill in any forms.

Can I ask you a question back: You said you've taken your JP to and from Korea, was that in a BFR case or standard case?

It was BFR RW Neck JP, but it was in the STD SKB case.

Everytime I checked my JP they made me fill out forms declaring the make, model, value, etc.

Im shocked, other airlines dont do this, but Korean Air is known for its outstanding customer service.

Bad news guys, amazon.com sent me the wrong guitar. They sent me a JPX 6 instead of a 7. Fortunatly they're going to refund everything including shipping and are going to ship it back at their expense. But I don't get the guitar I payed for because they say it's out of stock, after I bought the last one. Can you believe this?

Hello there fellow Irishman and congrats on buying the BFR JPX7.you are the 4th person in Ireland to buy a BFR JP Model,i was the first in 2007 when they first came out,another guy in galway has a 7string.there is amate of mine in dublin who brought one home in the cabin storing it in the over head locker and there was no problems because the cases are fairly neat in size but the 7 string is obviously a bit bigger.
Chance your arm anyway as id say you might be able to bring it on board with you alright.

I don't have the guitar yet, but I have found one in Orlando that I'm going to pick up on the way to the airport, after amazon messed up my order.

Obviously your in america my friend and travelling back to ireland?
I dont know to be honest,might of been aerlingus but not 100%.
This abig EBMM dealer in florida called bass central which have abig stock of guitars.make sure to remove all the tags etc incase you get stopped by customs coming back in to Ireland.

Yeah, it's America, and yes, I'm getting the guitar from Bass Central, and I know the drill for bringing guitars through customs, I've taken 5 home. Put a strap on, throw a couple of tools and stuff in, maybe a tuner and strings.

I hope it was Aer Lingus, that's who I'm flying with. I hope they let me take it on, because I don't want to put it in the hold, especially with those huge overhead lockers.

I wouldn't let them touch the guitar. My BFR case doesn't close very well. The center latch is useless and doesn't hold and with rough handling the latches can pop easily.

What you do is up to you, but be aware that following Colin's advice is against the law and could lead to a large fine & the confiscation of your guitar. The only legal way is to declare it at Customs & pay the import duty & VAT....for which you will need the invoice.

I flew with airlingus. I didnt have to pay any tax's. coming from usa i had to open the case for the security , but all he done was admire the guitar and said goodluck with it!!!

I suppose it just depends on the day and the staff you encounter, my advise is to have the money that you may have to pay as tax ready and be prepared to part with it, you know yourself your still gonna be saving a fortune as to what you would pay in Ireland. But you might be lucky like me

Out of curiousity, where did you fly from and also was there much hassle to be allowed to take it in the cabin?

I got the guitar earlier today from Bass Central and they wouldn't let me play it until they were happy with the set up, so they gutar is set up nice. The 7 string neck took a bit of getting used to, but I'm almost used to it now. The guitar is coming into the cabin with me, (good news or what?) and I've been playing it while I wait for the flight. I've got a picture of it on my phone, but I can't get the pisture on to the computer because I've packed the cable in my baggage. I'll post a NGD thread tomorrow after I get home and have had a chance to try it through my amp.

I'm so excited about this guitar and greatful to you all for your help.
