BFR JP7 + Capo?

Hi guys! This might be a stupid question, but.. here goes

Could you use a 7-string capo on a BFR JP7 without damaging the guitar in any way? Are there any "side effects" other than probably wearing out the strings slightly faster? (I'll take it off when the guitar isn't being used). Or are there any other problems that could arise when doing this?

I'm asking because I've been thinking about how I'd tune the 7-string that I've ordered to play the songs where JP uses
C standard tuning with his 6-string. Then I figured "couldn't i just slap a capo on the 1st fret"?

Because of the contour of the JP6 neck you better be careful as to what type of capo you use, as some do not work very well with that contour.

I have a JP6 and use a G7th capo which is excellent

A Kyser capo would work just fine.

I'll second the G7th... I have one that I bought for my 12 string acoustic and it works great on my JP6 and should be fine with the JP7 too even with the wider fretboard.

You may also want to challenge yourself and transcribe the songs to play on the 7 string without the capo. I know I transposed As I Am and play it on my 7 without a capo. You got to play a lot of that C5 power chord on the 1st and 3rd fret but it's doable. Just a thought.

That is also a possibility yes . Doesn't work quite as well for the parts where you quickly alternate between the open C-string and other stuff on the same string. Personally, I prefer to tune my guitar half a step up ... it's easier and half a step will not cause you trouble with the intonation.

True, sometimes you just have to get creative with positions and fingering!
