Ok guys, here's my dilemma:

After almost 11 years of putzing around and not biting the bullet, I'm finally saving the $$ for an axis. My question is, should I wait and spend the dough on a BFR axis (there's a specific one I know I want)? Part of me is an impatient child and I know I could go to my local music store and get a regular tobacco burst axis sooner, but a huge part of me says "wait. A great instrument will come if you bide your time."

Any suggestions?

my advice is to "buy right the first time". It'll save you money in the long run and you'll have a great guitar for a life time.

Well, if you've waited 11 years, and you've now got a gut feeling that you want a BFR, I'd be waiting for the BFR.

But I think the difference between a BFR vs regular Axis is minimal when compared to the other BFR models, so you won't be disappointed either way.

(Someone correct me if I'm wrong)

:)

Yeah, I guess you guys are right. I figure if I'm gonna spend money on another guitar, I might as well spoil myself. I just get impatient sometimes. I don't know how you guys who have ordered your own could stand it.

There's a 3rd option. Order a BFR and buy an axis for NOW. The two months of playtime on it won't cost you much if anything and then you sell it when the BFR is ready.

By that time who knows what you might do. You'll have a lot of options. Sell the interim guitar as planned. Sell the BFR when it arrives because you fell in love with your fling. Or keep both cause you've lost your mind and can't let go!

That'd be nice, but I'm also saving up money for graduate school. Alas, I cannot buy two guitars AND save up a couple grand.

Find a store that has both that way you can try out both. I thought Id like the BFR JP and the Luke more than the standard JP or Luke and to my surprise I liked the standards more in pretty much every way. You might be the same way, it would totally suck if you spend the $3k on a BFR and end up liking a standard one more that cost alot less.

As of now I'm playing on a str@t, which is ok. But as far as I'm concerned, it would be a win-win getting a bfr as opposed to sticking with my current guitar. I'd love to try both, but the nearest MM dealer would be hundreds of miles away. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I've pretty much decided on the BFR (unless I change my mind of course).:p

I hear ya. But dont just get the BFR cause its more expensive or looks better or whatever. You may like the standard version more. Ive never been into buying something cause its a brand name or looks cooler than other products. Id rather have an ugly beat up guitar that has awesome tone and plays great than a good looking guitar thats alot more expensive but plays and sounds just ok. Plus its more often less expenive that way which I see as a plus.

I totally understand, and I keep debating for that exact reason. There are a few reasons (mostly cosmetic) why I'm leaning towards the BFR route:
1. Mahogany tone block
2. MOP inlays (for some reason, I cannot get over the look of them on a maple neck)
3. It's just overall f'n beautiful
4. I've been playing for so long that I feel as if I've earned the right to spoil myself.

But as you've said, most of those reasons are cosmetic and I could save myself a grand by picking up a sweet regular axis (or save 500 and get the sequoia gold limited edition, heh). I'm sure once my next paycheck comes in I'll have a more steadfast decision. I'll update everyone as time goes on.

I would get a normal Axis and take the extra $1000 or so that you would have spent on a BFR and get a used Silo or something...

Block of mahogany or used Silo? Huh what to do............::D

OR, I could use the money to buy myself a nice mesa boogie combo. Perhaps a Lonestar or Roadster. Damn you, you've made this so difficult.:D

Yea I hear that alot :D

Id bet an Axis would sound awesome thru a Lonestar! Just add a Tube Screamer in front and a Boss DD-6 in the loop and that would be orgasmic!
