Many of you who dont know who Dan Norton is really need to understand that he has been with us for 34 years. He has had his touch on everything through out those years.

We were looking for a business guy...we had 10 employees or so back then. Dan had just graduated from Chico State with a business degree. Ill never forget my dad was just back from his lunch of body surfing and Dan shows up for the interview in a three piece suit. My dad asked for his resume and Dan pulled out a partially built classical guitar that Dan was making by hand that was stunning. Dan got hired and we never did see a resume.

Dan ran Earthwood after George left, was my fathers right hand man for many years. He started Music Man and built the origianl factory and helped to integrate Dudley.

As my father slowed down Dan had a choice....stay with my Dad and his projects or give me a try.

Together we won 8 best of show awards at namm, made RVs with 18 demo stations hanging on them , put graphics on VW's before it was commonplace, design and build mobile stages, coordinated the desert move and tons in between. Dan is also a hellacious baker and his pies are world class.

It is fun to watch Dan work with the third generation. His desk in the desert is next to Brians and he works really closely with Scotty in SLO.

Maybe some of the other Employees can add to the Dan topic.

Dan is not an employee he is a member of the family.

dan made some famous ABC pies...Those are Apple, blueberry and cherry. The combination is a closely guarded secret. Unfortunately the pies didnt make the show but they were good!

I was gonna derail the thread to talk about how much Dan Norton ROCKS, but you beat me to it, BP. He is truly the most talented, intelligent, warm-hearted person I've ever met and a very cherished entity at Ernie Ball/Music Man. While he chose to give Sterling a try instead of stay on with Ern back in the day, he preserved all of the good things about Ernie's direction, dedication and philosophy. He wears red Chuck Taylors most of the time and loves Elvis Costello too! The angels do want to wear his red shoes...

Hats off to Dan Norton! You, my friend, are a class act! :)

Dan is indeed the man. When I first started working at EB/MM I got to work with Dan and Ron Saul in the machine shop. This was before the building we now are in was even built. In my first year, I got to work with Dan on that years NAMM booth project, and I remember thinking "I have to hang with this guy and learn everything I can from him" This was 11 years ago:eek: Ron remains a friend, and Dan remains an inspiration.
When Ernie died, Dans words at the memorial service made me cry. There are very few people that I am in awe of. Dan is one of them. Dudley and Sterling are in that catagory also. How cool is that? 3 of them in one company.
