I sold two Rays to fund my incoming Classic Ray 4 and Ray 5 HS.

Now Ive got serious GAS for a Big Al 5 SSS, same spec as the colours ive seen, I think, that Bovinehost has.

Eg, V Sunburst, vintage White Pearl Guard, rosewood.

Those 3 x S are simply amazing on the demo videos, and I really am starting to love the shape.

Question is....well, actually no question, I want to order one of these as well. I want three diff EB basses, and Ill definitely get it from these!

The waiting is all part of the fun! (still a pain though! :p )

Right, Ive got a good quote. Now, I know its going to be:

V Sunburst, Vintage White Pearl Guard, SSS, 5 String.

Rosewood or maple?!??!

In the unlikely situation where your Classic and your HS may not fill a certain niche, the Big AL will do nicely.

You're right, adouglas!

"Or maple."

Meaning the first choice should be:

ROSEWOOD

I like rosewood for Vintage Sunburst. For other finishes I'd say maple. To me it's mostly cosmetic though I've never played the same model with both to compare the sound.

At one point I had two Sterling 4 single H models, both black, one with a rosewood fretboard, one with a maple fretboard, both made the same year.

At another point I had two StingRay 5 single H models but they had different finishes and I don't know if they were made the same year or not.

The two Sterlings were the closest in terms of being identical and I always preferred the sound of the one with the rosewood fretboard over the one with the maple fretboard.

I also recall preferring my StingRay 5 single H with the rosewood fretboard over the one with the maple fretboard as well.

In my experience I find there to be more than just a subtle difference in tone; I prefer rosewood.

I do like a rosewood board, but I also like the feel of maple. This time, I think rosewood as it finishes the whole 'style' of the bass.

Something about the single coils with the ever so slightly 'warmer' rosewood (IF there is a difference) definitely appeals.

Having a Big Al 4 with a maple neck I would go for rosewood too for a 5er. I am still waiting for some other colors at the moment.

(Ice blue or something orange or greeen would be killer).
