Big Al 5H vs SR5H

I want to trim down to two basses. One will be my Dargie Delight SR5, the other will be???

Will a Big Al 5H make a good backup for my SR5? I see the specs are similar except the preamp.

I've owned both models for the past 3+ years. During that time it became clear very quickly that my BA5-H is my go to bass, because of the 4 band EQ and its 18 volt output.

They're both great basses.

You can't go wrong with a big Al.

Yeah the BA 5 is incredible, amazing versatility for a single pup bass. It has huge passive tones also, don't be surprised
if it's more than a backup though.

I'm actually looking at a newer SR5... post-2008. That way I get the newer preamp and alnico pickup.

I think that will be really cool to have two similar basses with different tone. One nasty snarly one (my '07 DD SR5), and one smooth one. I like black/black/maple.

Yup. Having a few too many myselves, it's
cool to have a pair that play alike but they
each deliver hugely differing voices. All it
really takes is different strings. But if you
find that flats and RWs don't fit your idea
of "play alike", then you need a bit more
difference in the instruments themselves.
