I tell you what, when my 25th HSS arrives, I will write to the editor offering them to test it and review it (under my strict supervision), we'll see if the accept it.

I guess thats what bothers me....I would rather not have them reviewed than the hack jobs those guys do.

For a while, I subscribed to every bass-centric magazine on the planet, thinking I'd have to learn SOMETHING new SOMETIME.

Mostly, I didn't.

And print is dead. It's over. Stick a fork in it. Yes, it seems a little sad, giving up the old ways, but when you need to know something, do you consult your back issues of BassPlayer or do you google it?

:D Go tell 'em!!!

...but I think the guy would have to play it first before he could write something like that which he obviously did not...

Flip, have you played a Single H 25th? I don’t think i had one in the store when you cam down?

...i think he may have just used context clues and his brain and totally nailed it!! (thats how i passed in school) ...something that the writer didn’t seem to do....with the bass in his lap..

These have been reviewed in the Brit Mag, Bass Guitar Magazine, they have scored them quite highly and given both basses good comments.

Here is the full review.

Just out of curiosity, isn't it the distributor who decides what to send for review to the magazine, rather than the magazine editor/journo requesting specific instrument configurations?

I'm not defending what was written, but I've read a lot of reviews that make it clear that the distributor provided this specific example out of a range of "X" configuration instruments.

Cheers

Andy

You know what I think of reviewers...and magazines.

Ask Michael Rhodes the legendary top shelf nashville cat....He uses the single h due to its versitility Who do you believe....

a guy who writes about it or a giuy who makes history with it?

Geez BP... present company excluded I hope! Not all us reviewer types are boneheads.

I know what you mean though. I hate when reviewers pick on stupid, minute crap just to try to impress readers that THEY KNOW stuff. Many reviewers forget one very important fact about reviewing - it's NOT about them! It's about the gear.

Anyone that dismisses a single H EBMM of any kind is not a reviewer.

They will be treated like revenuers in my neck of the woods.

making informative reviews fun to watch is your real merit imo. And going the right direction with youtube videos and stuff. Bovinehost is correct - print is dead in the long run. Why have someone write how a bass sounds "nasal" if you can just hear it. You playing that same bassline exactly the same for many different PU and EQ combinations is priceless. Since then the written description just isn't worth it anymore, imo.

Ed's videos are a complete new class of reviews. It's what I've always imagined would be cool. And now it is. And he sells instruments: Made me have the local shop get a 25th so I can test it. Went. Played. Bought.

Actually... I have never played or even held a 25th H. The point of my submitting the mock review was to show how easy it would be to write an objective review based on the facts with very little effort, while at the same time providing the reader with an informative and unbiased opinion of the features and benefits of the bass. As Brandt correctly points out below, the reviewer, having the benefit of the bass in his lap, failed to recognize or report on the unique qualities of the bass that define its versatility relative to other basses on the market. Some of the most expensive and esoteric basses out there do little more than add hand-made, skin-deep flourishes to the basic P- or J-bass backbone; EBMM is proving with the Big AL and 25th that they are taking things to the next level, offering concepts, designs and features that go beyond what is 'normal' in the bass market

Brandt, I am not cheating on you with another dealer. No, I have not played a 25th H (see above). You profiled me and the reviewer 100% and that was my point. It's my opinion that if you can't recognize product innovation and differentiation and correctly convey that to your readership in an objective manner, you shouldn't be in the review business.

I love you, man. Coming to visit in early December and fondle my 25th!

Listen, on my part, anyway, it wasn't an attempt to slay whatever you posted. If it was a half-ass review, then that's probably better than no review at all.

I agree, that's why I got rid of it, I realized it offended the hard work that BP & Co. do so on my part, no need to rock the boat... did I just say that? lol :D damn!

Shucks

Reflect on my profession? Well... maybe, but in effect they make my job easier by demonstrating what does NOT need to happen!
