Well, my Big Al has been here for about a week now. Between a 44 hour work week and 12 hours of school on top of that, i've tried to use any free time that I do have, playing the Big Al....... As always, the EBMM build quality is top notch. The BA certainly is a different beast than any other EBMM bass i've owned(including the Bongo). The passive mode on this thing just sounds beautiful. I sold a P-bass to buy it and it totally nails the tone of that bass and much more. I've always wanted a passive Stingray and I feel that the two rear pickups in parallel(passive) gives me just that . As far as the active tones, i've found that if I find a passive tone and volume that I like and then engage the active eq (with it set flat) and then make small eq adjustments it's hard to go wrong. Standout setting has to be the two rear pickups in series. In either passive or active, that setting just flat out kills. The Big Al gets it done......and then some. First recording session is in 12 hours. Pics.........

Question: Are the three pickups about the same distance from the strings, from the factory? The MM FAQs say that the neck pickups, for dual pickup basses, are set further away from the strings. But I think they come from the factory set evenly?

That's a great review, Randy. Thanks! Between yours and Jacks comments on this bass (not to mention BP and a few others) I think a Big Al is in my near future.
