Big Al Pickup Question/Issue?

Hey folks, new EBMM owner who has just received a Big Al 4SSS today. It feels great, but I'm worried about a possible issue - it seems that I occasionally have volume dropouts when turning all the pickups off (to go to series mode). I always get volume back when turing one of the pickups back on, but its almost like the switch to series mode is not consistently happening. Am I doing something wrong? Any advice would be helpful, thanks.
