I used to swear that I had a preference for rosewood , and then one day realized that my two favourite basses at that time , both had maple necks .
An oops moment .
Now I say it really doesn’t matter ,but today my two favourites both have rosewood .

Sad that the Big Al didn’t sell better. What if Sterling by Music Man we’re to release a Big Al? That SSS pickup setup was killer!

Well, my hunt is over!!! I just received my Big Al 5 SSS that I've been searching forever for. Beautiful color. Its a metallic Red with an aged white pearloid pickguard, and all maple neck. I'll post some better outside pics later to really see the color and sparkle.

Now, It's apparent that it needs a good set up, the neck feels dry as well, action is very high and I'm sure the intonation is way off. I plan to replace the strings and clean it and set it up. The pick up height doesn't seem correct either on each pick up. Unfortunately, I can't find any set up info for a Big Al anywhere, including the EBMM site. I'm guessing I would just use the general recommended heights listed on the site but any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Me too. Big Al 5 SSS, later version with Mahogany body and lighter tuners in Candy Orange with rosewood board, please! It would complement my alder/maple sunburst 5 SSS nicely. Fantastic basses and very versatile.

I have mine since May this year. Fantastic tone options. The maple board gives lots of Attack
