Just a few photos of this 1978 Stingray very near the end of it's useable lifespan. Wonder just how many tunes in how many clubs this one pumped out. I hope I look this cool when I'm old and worn out, lol!

Nice but probably lots more life left in that bass after a refret, and a little care on the electrics.

Thanks. It is a nice one, as most of the old ones are/were. But this one has a twisted neck, and the rod is maxed out. Not sure yet if I should return it or try to salvage....

Yes, I'm in. I wish you the best of luck with it. I had it less then 2 hours and brought it back. I cleaned it, sprayed the extra scratchy pots, and put new Slinkys on it. Tone was awesome! It should be for 11.4 pounds.
If you want the reasons I brought it back, please feel free to message me.

The main reason it went back, of course, is because I have a new Custom Classic on order. Is it April yet?

well, if you payed a full pre-eb used market price and if you do like the sound I would try to negotiate the price down and consider using the extra cash to get a luthier to try and straighten the neck, hunt down a used neck or just slap a graphite replacement neck and enjoy a Cutray/Stinglass

Well, of course after a long time they may become unusable, but this depends on how they have been treated and how much they have been used. A well looked after instrument can last pretty much forever (just look at some of those pristine 50's fenders!) It's not like with people, when we reach a certain age the body goes 'I wanna stop now'...

If you mistreat any object, whether it is an instrument or not, it won't last. (try telling that to koogs...friggin' bongos never die)

That is the same as my 79 MM Sr4 was - except mine had 4 bolt and strings through.

Never seen a bass with such worn frets as that though

A modern Stingray neck won't fit on that without routing a hole on the body and pickguard for the truss wheel.

Shame about the neck, but the body looks very nice though. I guess it would all depend on what the bass cost. I normally would say slap a neck on it, but at the moment I'm watching out for a neck for a friend's '79, and I'm not seeing any.
