To everybody who has experienced this problem, seriously, wristbands of the sweatband type WORKS!! at stopping this problem. I once played a 90 min gig using my explorer without wearing one and I had bruised on my right forearm near the wrist. I now play gigs with 3 60 minute sets. I wear my wristband, no problem!!

If you search for pictures of James Hetfield or Dave Mustaine, you'll see that they always were wristbands. Actually, two consecutive ones. You can get cheap ones at your local sporting goods store or you can got online and order ones with logos from your favorite bands.

Here's a picture of me playing my 97 Axis Sport at the Arcadia Theatre in St. Charles Illinois when I was in a No Doubt Tribute band. Notice I'm wearing a wrist band on my forearm. Great gig. I jumped around alot, and played the hell out of that guitar. No bruises post gig.

I think the sweat band would keep my sweat from putting a haze on something that I have that has a nitro finish and might make it a little more comfortable to play too.

I agree - that's a really good idea! It might have helped avoid the haze that my LP has gotten over the years, and might make an Axis doable for me.

You'd think it would help, but not really. The edge of the body on a LP Custom is a killer. 200 BPM thrashing on that edge is a killer.

Makes my 25th feel an absolute dream in comparison...not to mention the JP's.

No doubt, but my days with the Tele I remembered far worse than my LP.

FARRRR worse. Then again, I'm not a shredder, so my whining may not be as justified. :D

Thanks man, I had this problem on some guitars, not all, but the sweat band idea is great, I'll try it.

anybody ever experience this problem? The reason that I'm not using an ASS model because the binding will leave a real burn mark on my forearm where I rest for picking. this is why the Petrucci scoop is a godsend for me, especially for fast picking.
The weird thing is on some guitars with a lot of binding, I don't have this issue, like on my Les Paul. but I also had this problem with a Tele I had years ago.

i have the same problem, while playing my EVHs. this is the reason why i wear a sweatband every time i´m playing.

It's funny, I don't find the Axis uncomfortable to play at all. I guess is is all in how you rest your arm on the guitar...

I think it depends mainly if you learned to play with an electric guitar or with an acoustic guitar. If your fist guitar was a Strat, you need a contoured body.
I learned with an old acoustic (from my mother) thus I don't need a contoured body.

I know that excact feeling..
The binding on my Les Paul Custom has actually been worn down a little bit right where my forearm hits the body.
Must be cause I've got waaay beefy forearms... Just kidding :D

For me it's more a problem when standing up, might be because I wear my guitars kinda low.
