That's the danger of overdoing it, I think. One of mine (the one I let the oil set longer on) feels different, and even seems a bit less clear acoustically, but I trust that between evaporation and playing time, it will regain its woody feel. Conversely, the one I went light on feels great.

The strange thing is that I did not leave the wax for long... maybe a minute or two before wiping it down. Since the oil is sold as a stand alone treatment for gun stocks, I'll only use that for the next treatment.

Yup, whatever works for you. I just played the heavier coated one and it's no problem at all. Just needed to dry and be buffed out more.

I've seen some very shiny MM neck pics on this board and no-one complains about them being too waxy. I think they just have to settle in, or be "wooled", as some have said. So it's back to personal preference, I guess. I still, like yourself, prefer that woody feeling.

Knowing a little more about BC products now, both from this experience and from others on this thread, i.e. oil hardening inside the wood, it doesn't seem unlike Watco products, which as I've mentioned before I've great success with in finishing fine furniture, that too should work very well. And like us old guitar players, oil finishes only improve with age .
