black / gold hardware wear off?

Are the guitars with gold or black hardware prone to having the coating come off? That is, say the JPX or stealth JP have black hardware, and one palm mutes alot, will the black eventually wear away? Is there a way to prevent that?

I have an old ibby RG with cosmo black hardware, and where i rest my hand there it is turning to chrome. I am not a fan of the wear away.

My Stealth Bongo is facing that wear issue, but I really don't care

Don't have that problem now I have solid gold on my Albert Lee

However my 70's Les Paul lost it's gold plating very quickly.
Just play it & live with it.- no one will point a finger saying "pahh look at that gold/black coming off that guitar"
