These are glossy black but stealth would be even cooler. I love an ebony fretboard. I have a guitar with one....... I am pretty sure it is actual ebony and not "ebonized".

What about a limited run of Black Onyx HH '06 with the stealth instead of glossy? That would be a hot design.

The described design could be a Bongo.

But hey, a Bongo is too bulky and too space age looking for me. My first choice would be a SR if it didn't dwarf me. Those basses are sexy cool.

The Bongo bulky? Lisa, I realize you're kind of petite, but I don't think a Bongo would dwarf you any more than a StingRay:)
And it is kind of the space age anyway, isn't it?
Now, if you could have Big Poppa make a George Jetson bass (space age and all) while you're at it, I'd appreciate it;) The Albert Lee almost makes me want to play guitar:p

I love the Albert Lee design!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bongos are awesome too. They just don't beat out the SR in my book.

Hey even the name sounds sexier..... we will try these two sentences.
"I play a Sting Ray"
"I play a Bongo"

Now we will examine the mental images of the nonmusician we are talking to.
"I play a Sting Ray"
...... hmmmm I don't know what that is but it sounds cool. Good name for an Italian sports car.

"I play a Sterling"
..... makes me think of sterling silver. Sound sleak and cool. I bet it is a slick instrument.

"I play a Bongo"
..... hmmmm yea my brother use to play some bongos while the neighbor kids danced and acted like Indians.

I am prepared to have Bongo players now egg my house and BP to disown me as his daughter.

Lisa You are grounded!

I may even have to take the keys to the car and the cell phone.

The problem with people who dig deep in the sand with a bunch of negative stuff with the bongo is when they see the light i is sooooo rewarding. They back pedal like Lance Armstrong in reverse.

Just call daddy when you need to wipe the egg off your face!!!!!

I was hoping it wouldn't come to that.........But if you push me I will have to give you a big spanking...remember it will hurt me more than you! (dont you love that ...my dad used to say that and I would say then let me spank you it wont hurt me at all.)

BP, he had to mold you into the guitar loving man you are today.

I notice that Bongo isn't listed in the history section of the website. Where did the name come from? Anyone know where I can read some history on the design. This conversation has me curious.

Lisa,
I have some basic (and old) information here. I really need to get around to updating that page, but I did it when I first fell in love with the whole Bongo concept and I didn't have occasional access to BP and Dudley and Dargin, so I scavenged the information from where I could.

I should really update that thing, but anyway, that should get you started.

Jack

EDIT: Okay, I had a few minutes and updated it a bit. All my old info was pretty good, but I used some stuff from conversations with BP. The horse's mouth, as it were. BP, take a look when you have time and see if you find anything objectionable. I edited out all the stuff about the dwarves and the frozen scampi.

The mental imagery that came to mind after reading Lisa's post. All of it is fictitious, a product of my gall bladderless imagination.

"I play a Sting Ray"
...... hmmmm I don't know what that is but it sounds like something I don't want to step on while I'm at the beach. My father used to drive one of those Corvettes down on the strip with his hairy chest, gold chains and beer gut hanging out trying to pick up 18 year olds after he divorced mom and left us. Then the gas and maintenance bills got too high and he ended up moving back in (to the garage).

"I play a Sterling"
..... makes me think of sterling silver. Always hated when we went over to Grandma's for Thanksgiving. First, the smell. Hated that smell. Something like spoilt, fermented cabbage. Then I always had to polish the silver before setting the places for dinner. i always ended up eating dinner with silver polish all over my hands. I've heard its linked to gall stones.

"I play a Bongo"
..... makes me think of goatees and thick rimmed glasses, Jack Kerouac and "On The Road", smoke filled clubs with beatniks pushing the literary limits, Maynard G. Krebs, William S Burroughs, The Beat Generation, cool daddy-o. :p
