Thanks alot Jamie.

That sounded great. I just have a couple questions about the setup.

What was your volume set at?

What effects were you using?

What effects were in the effects loop, and what was in front of the amp?

Thanks much, awesome playing.

I had an HT5 combo for a short while. I thought it was really good, especially for the price but I already had a Cornford Harlequin and, IMHO, the Harlequin had a fair bit more tone - as it should do at nearly twice the price (in the UK; even more in the USA).

To concur with what others have said, the HT5 through the V30 in the Cornford was way better than through the 10" speaker in its own Blackstar cab, so, for the combo at least, I think the major limiting factor is the speaker rather than the amp itself. It is far more portable than the Cornford though, and much lighter. Overall, a great piece f kit for the price, especially the £249 that they were originally.

Incidentally, my 14-yr old daughter has learnt guitar on a Squire Mini. She's good and its time to move on up, so for her birthday I got here an ASS off this forum (thanks Tony). She rocks! I wish my parents had been as generous with me!

I also gave her a copy of Jamie's Crash Course!

cheers,
Steve

Can I also say, great playing Jamie. Very tuneful and restrained, especially given the fact that you can clearly do all of "the ****" when you want to. Restraint is a great virtue, something that some of your contemporaries might do well to learn...

cheers,
Steve

Thanks again guys...volume wise, not sure what the amp was on, gain is not even up half way..I dont use too much gain..I pushed it over by using a Blackstar Boost pedal, the Blue Boost on the floor...thats was it in front of the amp..as for send and return effects..none..i record dry and then added delay in stereo when I mixed my performance to the backing track...I adjust the volume alot on the guitar for different tones too..
I agree..The Cornfords are great..I have one of the first Harlequins, and a proto type carerra, no serial number, 2 MK50's serial number #1 and #10, and a hand made Roadhouse, 50 watt in a 30 watt chasis...serial number #3...one of the first pre mass produced hand made ones..yeah they are great..my album was all Carrera and Harlequin...I have toured the MK50's all over the world for 10 years..I was Cornfords 3rd endorsee...but to be honest...they are not renowned for their clean tone..so in my book they are no where near as versatile as a Blackstar...Cornford are more expensive...yes..but how much would an HT5 be if it where hand made in the UK...my point...both amps do great things regardless of the price...I cant stand Marshall..not made a good amp for years...saw Jeff Beck a month back and said "I want a Marshall again!!"...I think its all in the guitarists hands and ears is my point...yes the 12" vintage 30 ,makes a huge differenece..me and another friend A/B an MK50 with an HT5 through a 2x12 cab..result..both sounded great..not much different tbh...and thats the truth!! I was at Jeffs Saturday Ronnie Scott gig - the one that comprises most of the live DVD; and I can be seen in the audience to prove it!

Yes - it's all in the fingers - his fingers, not mine!

cheers,

Wow ... jealous as hell! Wish I could have seen that show. Love the DVD. Jeff Beck is the master.

I plan on getting a HT-5 to use along with my Egnater Rebel 20 next month. I love my Egnater and I really dig the HT-5 as well. But together they would probably really sound great. But not thru those dumb 1 12 cabs. Ill use a couple 412s and 212s:D

I have a HT-DistX pedal. It's more of a high gain sound than the HT-5 head. It sounds wonderful. The HT pedals use a single 12AX7 tube, which they run at 300 volts rather than starving the plates.

I have the Blackstar HT-Dual Pedal and I love it because it doesnt sound like a pedal. It sounds like its from an amp. Ive tried everything out there! The Tonebones came a close second but this Blackstar is just on a whole other level.

I am going to be getting one of these. Ever time I play it I love it but I only want the head. The cab to me does not sound bad but I know it has way more to offer. I am either going to use my VHT 2x12 with V30's for and but a VHT D cab 2x12 for my Sig X or I am going to order a port city over sized 1x12. Either way this will be an awsome small travel rig.

I am most likely going to get this little gem but I do have a question...how FAT of a lead tone can be achieved with this amp? I am going to probably get myself a 2x12 Mesa Recto Cab...the future will hold a Lonestar Head when I have the space to make noise :D.
Jamie, that tone is great and the playing is awesome. Anyone else care to demonstrate some nice lead tones of this amp?

Can anyone tell me the practical difference between the Mesa 2x12 Roadster and 2x12 Recitifier cabinets? Mesa's website doesn't really explain the differences; specs show the Rectifier has a slightly bigger cabinet, but the speakers appear to be the same. Rectifier version costs about $30 more.

I'm thinking, too, of pairing the Blackstar HT-5 head and a Mesa cabinet for home use. I use a Fender Deluxe Reverb RI at home now.

I was just looking at that today as well. I think the dimensions are the only difference, which will also most likely impact the sound to some extent.

Bought the Mesa 2x12 Recto cab at GC today. HT-5 will arrive late next week. Can't wait to give them a try with the Axis. [BTW, when I commented about having to pay tax at GC and not MF, the guy discounted the amp head 17% to more than offset the sales tax :)]

Oh, and I really liked Jamie's "Ceremony". Downloaded his album just now. Listening to it as I write this.
