I did read the entire post, but I was just pointing out that in the Fender line, to get a good sound might be too expensive for the OP's wallet.

Yup, first time I opened up my Sunn 1200s to change a tube, I was greeted with a big Fender USA sticker. And of course the thing is a mighty, mighty amp.
Lots of good amps out there these days. Markbass is a local (forum) favorite, Genz Benz, SWR and even Fender (look, I got one!). The broad brush is easily applied but sometimes covers up stuff you'll need later.

im 16 and without a job. i dont gig alot. im looking for an amp that will get me through the next 2 years and sound great. swr combo workingpro 15 is a BEAUTIFUL amp with great sound and tone. Saying otherwise and just sticking your head up markbasses butt and not looking anywhere else will just make you a very 1 sided person. i dont just look at one thing and say "sounds good, i like it, lets get it." i say "this is nice, but lets see what else i can find with a GREAT tone that will allow me to further myself BEFORE i blow 1200 or more bucks on something". SWR ISNT crap, its very well made stuff for a specific toned people. FENDER isnt crap, it is just a heavier type of sound. think about what your saying about the amps and try them before you comment as a fanboy for markbass. to each his own. and $700, if spent correctly, will not buy u a crap amp, but a good, if not AMAZING amp.

Well, that seems a bit over the top. Many of us have owned plenty of different amps, heads, cabs, combos, you name it and have come to the conclusion that Markbass does it best at the moment. It's not a question of "not looking anywhere else". It's generally a question of looking EVERYWHERE else.
That said, there are many good amps out there, variety is the spice of life, play what blows your knickers up, etc etc.

Respectfully, many of the posters in this thread are experienced vets with OPINIONS based off of their experiences. You may not agree with them, and that is cool, but the way you did that wasn't the most tactful, again, in my opinion.
I personally have owned 2 Ampeg combos, 1 Ampeg Pro head, 3 Ampeg cabs, 3 different Markbass heads, 2 different Markbass cabs, an SWR 750, a Fender combo, a Behringer combo, 3 Epifani cabs, a Genz Benz, and a few others I've forgotten.... Yay me, right? The point of me bringing this up is that my opinion is based off trying a few things and im one of the least experienced people who replied. You asked for our opinions, right? If you don't like them, don't use them, but don't resort to name calling on the people who have taken THEIR time to respond to YOUR request.
Just sayin' brother. Best of luck and enjoy whichever amp you choose to buy.
Like Jack said, their are alot of good amps out on the market, lord knows i've had my share. We have alot of Mark Bass users on here and although they are not for me,they do make great products. I say take your bass down to the store and try as many amps/cabs and combos as you can to determine what suits you.

But seriously, you can get a nice 500 watt GK 210 combo for about $600 or the 212 for $700.
If it was my money I will look for a used Little Mark II (you can get them @ the big bass forum for $350 to $400) and get Avatar cabs.

cheers to this dude who gets me. i understand the way that i responded may have been rude and uncalled for, but when i came here looking for helped from the people i respect most in the bass industry, the people i feel know WAY more about everything than i do, and then my personal favors for amps were considered crappy and only one type of amp was "gig-worthy", it kinda grinds my gear. out of respect to all of you great bass-knowing people, i am respectfully apologizing, and i respect all of your answers.

again with the painful comments! ive based my sound off of swr for about 5 years now! im open to new amps and thats why im here right now, but there is no need to be dissin the swr amps! and plus, fender has been the basis for as long as electric bass has been around! im just asking for a bit more respect for the companies and people who make the bass industry a great place to be.

Hey, I did a quick search for you and there was a SWR Super Redhead that sold on TB for about $675 + shipping a couple months back. If you are willing to go used, this might be a good combo for you.
Check out Ed Friedland's videos of the Genz Benz stuff.... I think you might really enjoy it if you like the SWR sound.

GK is a good bang for your buck sounds good too and my 2001 has not let me down. There 1001 Rb is new for 749$ (guitarcenter). The way I have found my heads have just been going in a store and trying them all (mesa markbass ampeg swr you name it lol)... Sorry if you are just looking for combos, my comment is prob irrelevant... =P
You blew your last swr right ? Then it wasn't the right amp for you.
The super redhead is a great studio amp but live I found it kept clipping when I tried to push it.
The best cab I own is a swr Goliath III amazing tone but weights the same as a fridge. I really love my ampeg svt and my 1980's Marshall stack is cool as hell but the rig I play 4-5 nights a week with and the one I am taking too the studio in a few hours is my markbass. I am not a fanboi I just found a product that works.
When I think back to all the gigs I have played where I couldn't really hear my bass or searched all night for "my tone" ... Now I plug in my rig, mostly leave it flat and add a little eq from my bass and never have to worry about hearing myself.
Have fun dude, try out as many amps as you can, if you do get a super redhead be sure to look at an ext cab down the line as you may need it to stop it from clipping. (they are not cheap here btw I paid €2300 for my redhead a few years back)
