Why not try out different rigs until you find one that fits your needs?
Then make a decision.

I use a WorkingPro 15 combo for rehearsal (WorkingPro w/ Goliath 4x10 for gigs), and love the tone. As others have said, the sound/tone is your personal preference. The WorkingPro 15 would work well enough for most gigs my band plays, I just prefer the bigger rig for live work. I play a Stingray 5HH through them both and love them. And, I got the combo used on Craigslist for $350. Not bad.

Exactly why i love SWR! great tone for what i do!. the workingpro 15 is exactly what i have been planning on getting from the start, and was also planning on getting an extra swr cab later on for gigs!

I should have specified, I have a separate head for the 4x10, a WorkingPro 700. Sounds great!

You started this thread looking for some of us MORE experienced players to give you our opinions on what equipment WE have used, and might recommend. I see by your very last post, that you really had no intention of using our suggestions, and was merely looking for us more SEASONED players to just validate your choice of using SWR.

the amp of choice for many semi pro players doing gigs in small and medium venues in the uk is an ashdown MAG 300 with a 4 x 10 cab. Sound great with MM basses and very reasonable price new. Even better value used. it may be worth a look if you can get them there.

The condescension and sanctimony of some of the replies on this thread is astounding! To recap, Gage is a sixteen-year-old without a job. He blew out his LA series SWR amp, which is that company's entry-level unit. He likes the SWR tonal pallette. He wants to upgrade his amp. He isn't playing live, so tone is more important to him than volume and/or headroom. His budget is $700 max. He's seeking advice for upgrades.
He gets a lot of MarkBass suggestions - good gear, but a much warmer sound than SWR. Mesa gear is great, but out of his budget. The Los Angeles contingent is unanimous in stating his preference is "crap." A few other suggestions that are closer tonally - Genz-Benz and GK. Most importantly to the original poster, he gets validation for upgraded SWR gear from Manfloozy, nurnay and even DTG. He's not worried about cutting through in a live mix, he just wants an amp with SWR tone that he won't destroy, and can later upgrade with an extension speaker.
If the kid ended up buying the Workingman's 15, mission accomplished. I don't think he was looking for unanimous approval from the forum, just some validation for what his gut choice was. He got that validation from a few seasoned players here.

Jlepre and DTG: that may be how it would "Seem" but no. I came here with the intention of having some seasoned players who know what they are talking about help me with my decision of a great amp for a lower price, but instead i got a couple of people knocking my current likings of amps and others telling me to get something out of my price range. after MUCH more research and looking, i found the workingpro 15 and that it will do exactly what i want for the price i want with the TONE i want, with the ability to be upgraded. if i came off to you as a stubborn kid, then i apologize, but i came here for help, not for criticism. IN THE FUTURE! when i DO start gigging on a regular basis. i WILL get a mark bass setup, but for now i stick for the SWR price and tone which i like right now.

Dude chill, do yourself a favour and play as many amps as you can then make up your mind!
Nobody is being nasty to you, but read you first post and then your last one. In the first one you asked a few questions the last one you basically said well I am going to do what I want anyway.
But then maybe it's just me who took it that way.
Buying new gear should be fun so go to a store or ten and have a blast playing with as much gear as you can and have fun!

Thanks man. again, i myself even think i came off as a jerk a little bit through this thread, and im just stressing about amps because i need something cheap, and i need something fast. ive tried MANY amps in the last week and the two that appealed to me was a new swr and markbass. markbass=me broke for the rest of my highschool career. swr= something to get me through it.

There's nothing wrong with buying equipment which meets your budget - SWR whatever - do try the Ashdown if you get opportunity (I'm usually ignored mentioning this manufacturer on here - you guys don't know what you're missing!!).
I guess if you buy new you will have a warranty, which is good in your position. There are some good used deals to be had though.
