I know I'll probably end up regretting this in the long run, but I'm going to put my Blue Dawn Axis SS up for sale and wanted to give the folks on this forum a first shot at it.

I thought the feeling would pass, but sadly it hasn't. I have an opportunity to pick up a sweet 10 top PRS Singlecut. I guess I'm caving into the hype. I figure that Gibson will eventually win out and there will be no more, at this price anyhow.

I'd like to be able to keep the Axis as well but current economics being what they are I have to let it go.

I'm asking $900 shipped in the continental US. All original paperwork and goodies still in the case. There is one small ding in the corner, located about 5:00 from the tone pot.

This just in...

Fred has lost his mind.

Hey, didn't you put that nick in it the first day you had it??

DOH!

KEITH

PS I own a PRS CUSTOM 24 quilted 10 top in Natural. That I never play and the bridge and saddles are still starting to rust in less than 2 years. Disappointing.

I wondered how long it would take for someone to bust my balls... :(

Actually it was the second day when the nick happened. Like I said, I think I'm giving in to the hype, and I hope I don't end up kicking myself for doing this.

The Petrucci was a Christmas present from my wife, so there's the sentimental value that hangs on that one. I really do hate to get rid of the Axis, but with school tuition for the kids and everything else in life, I can't swing the PRS without doing this.

PRS = Predominantly Recycled Shat

Too much a "pop culture" icon, and they sound like poo. Too muddy and those bridges are pure crap at the intonation game.

Just my $.02

I will be changing it from 9's to 10's though, will i need to make many changes?
I should probably let a tech do it.

I went with 10's and like them better. I play mostly rhythm though.

The FAQ's have some information about changing string gauge. You will probably need a truss rod adjustment and you might need the nut slots widened, although I have heard folks say you shouldn't have to just going from 9's to 10's.

The nut slots should be OK...Maybe a slight truss rod adjustment.

My 2 cents on PRS. I had a Custom 24, 10 top, birds, The bridge stated corroding after about 5 months, the intonation was ok...not perfect. I traded it for a Custom Shop Gibson CS336 and don't regret the trade at all.

BTW I just setup an SR5 for Mr. Smith...It was a gift to him, and he LOVES it! :D

Fred,

Sorry to hear you are selling or have sold you Blue Dawn Axis SS. Not only an awesome axe, but the best color there is.....Hope the PRS works out for ya. At least you have your JP.

BTW, if you are looking for a custom made guitar, I know of someone who has an awesome rep and is worth looking at his work. PM me if you are interested and I will give you the info.

Good luck..

Lew, theres no problems or anything really that needs to be done going from 9's to 10's. Did so on my Axis with zero alterations...but then went back to 9's for the bendyness at the cost of a little tone.

Lew,
I just sent an email with the tracking info to you. The auto bounce back was my out of office reply since I'm off today, sorry I didn't get it in the mail last night.

Hey Bing... thanks buddy. ;)

I know I probably deserve it, kick away.

Jongitarz... thanks for the info, not exactly what I wanted to hear though.

I hope I'm still welcome here at the forum, I'm still a big EBMM champion.

Hellyah you're still welcome.
Not only do you still have and play a petrucci, you went ahead and made someone else on this board very happy.

Maybe once you get the prs and compare...you can invite/convert some of them guys to over here ;)
