BFR is something that BP referred to a few months ago in relation to new "things" for 2007. Today he explained that BFR was short for "Ball Family Reserve" - meanig that the Ball Family was going to produce a few extra-ordinary pieces - a few intruments with tweaks of additional features and our quality refinements to help the public know a couple things: They are a family owned and run business - that can produce some of the finest instruments out there.

This is my interpretation of what BP said - he can certainly correct me when he gets back on this forum.......

so is it going to be something along the lines of a Custom Shop or something?

Not really - as I understood - they said for example - it they found a unique wood for a top or a neck - they would utilize it to make a few (very small quantity) instruments. How they would tell the public that such instruments exist - I don't know. My guess is that they might be announced on this forum and maybe show up as CLB auction items.

All speculation until BP clarifies BFR for all of us.

Cheers

Question:

Dargin's blue Bongo (his avatar), the one that made my head explode when the large pic of it was posted a few months back....

Is that bass Blue Dawn or not? At the time somebody said it was, but Dargin's Bongo doesn't look like it has a sparkle finish, and Blue Dawn is clearly a sparkle finish.

Me likey blue burst...sparkles, not so much.

'splain, please?

Gracias.

hope this finish is available in the Bongo six string. If it's not that is ok too, I think If not this finish on the six a Candy red with a black pickguard would look awesome.

Thanks for the clarification Eggman! I cannot wait to hear what BP has in store. I would buy a bass with a top like the Axis guitars get in a second. I hope this is one of the BFR type offerings. Thanks again for the help & understanding.

I recall Sterling talking about trying to bring some of the stuff he does for the artists to rabid fans like us. Not a custom shop where you get to order what you want but a unique offering that will depend on what they think they can do. Sort of like the limited editions but even more limited. Exciting times :D but I'm trying to go back to grad school so that whole money thing is going to be making some decisions for me. :(

Blue Dawn Bongo! I need to start setting up individual savings accounts.

So what's going to be different about the '07 Blue Dawn and the ones from a few years ago?

First of all, you'll be able to get basses with two pickups as well as Bongos in the color.

Second, there will be an inlay of some variety to designate the ltd edition for 2007 as opposed to the silk screen of the previous ltd eds.

I, for one, am very excited about the blue dawn.

Who said "limited edition" had to mean "never before available?"

Blue dawn! Oooh, I'm so down with that. I want one just like Dargin's avatar. I love this company.

Dargin's avatar really does it for me, too. But...see the question below, as yet unanswered. Is Dargin's avatar really Blue Dawn?

The photos of BD show sparkles. Dargin's avatar is not a sparkle bass. Me likey the blue burst, but the sparkles...not so much.

What gives?

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

I thought this question was asked a while back and the answer was that the Bongo in Dargin's avatar is Blue Dawn. I'm sure someone from EB will chime in to correct me if I'm wrong.

Uhhhh... yeah. Exactly. IIRC it was me who asked that question when the pic of that bass was first posted, and somebody (Pete DuBaldo, maybe?) said it was Blue Dawn.

But Dargin's avatar Bongo has no sparkles.

And the pics of Blue Dawn guitars at the top of this thread do.

So either Dargin's avatar Bongo isn't Blue Dawn, or Blue Dawn is not a sparkle finish.

I'm just curious...The color will be what it will be, and we'll find out one way or the other before too much longer.
