Blue Dawn is the Coolest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So when I went to Cali this last week I got a chance to play Keith's BD Luke. Granted it's not as cool as my BD silo piezo trem. But still, its one bad guitar. This is the coolest non transpearant color ever. The bass player that Keith plays with brought his BD Sterling with the picguard removed. My luthier said of the Blue Dawn color, "It looks like you could just reach in and grab a hand full of stars". When I ordered my Silo I opted for the white pearloid pickguard. Then the abolone was introduced. EB sent me the new pickguard Free of Charge. (Those guys ROCK!!!!) So that is why I have the white pickups. It's ok campers. The silo is in the shop as we speak. I'm having the Black EMG's installed. Anyway, here is a picture of 3 unreplaceable EBMM's. Thanks for letting me share.

Hey Mods, Why was Blue Dawn Discontinued?

I remember I was in DC at Chuck's music store when I found out Blue Dawn, as well as the other sparkle finishes, were being discontinued. I recall the EBMM contact told me that when they would paint another body after a sparkle color, the sparkle would come from the paint sprayer onto the next body. As if the sprayer wasn't cleaned properly. I went back and checked a previous post on this subject and there was no remark from EBMM on this. Could a mod share with us?

OOOHHH Sparkley!!!!!! I like the sparkley ones. They remind me of 1960's/1970's hot rods. Very cool.

Norm, I've never seen Blue Dawn up close and personal, but I wish I had. Very, very nice. I had seen one on Ebay a while back, but the seller was calling it Blueberry Burst.

IMO Blue dawn is my fave color of any guitar ever...but it does NOT photograph well for some reason.

There aren't any big bright dots in the finish as in photo, they're all teeny tiny flecks of metallic that look great.

To stave off any more, "yeah, what's that all about?" type responses, norm posted in a separate thread:

"The Neck pup on this guitar is the split coil capable EMG 89. It is set in upside down so when in single coil mode the active coil is closest to the neck."

There, now I've done my public service. Looks good, norm!

EMG also makes a reverse 89 called the 89R. Looks normal, same effect.

Doubt they'd custom spray, but you could probably still find some BD sterlings in stock around the usa.

The Sparkles were difficult because after spraying a run of instruments we found residue of sparkle would show up on our trans finishes. We therefore would have to spend extra time cleaning our paint guns to continue spraying normal colors. For the amount of orders we received for the sparkle finishes we decided it was not worth the effort.

I thought you were now doing a red and a bronze sparkle as these 2 colors were at Winter NAMM?

I can accept that the other sparkle colors weren't popular enough to continue production, but it would seem the new ones would cause the same spray gun problems.

why not just have a dedicated spray gun for sparkle colors. How much are those things anyway, a couple hundred bucks?

Hey Derek -

At the risk of sounding like a simpleton, were the sparkles just getting stuck in the gun's head/nozzle, or other parts like a hose or paint tank too?

Seems like having set of different head/hose/canister parts set aside for the sparkle finishes would be the quick solution...one would be inclined to think they'd pay for themselves after only a few custom orders. Just curious....

For the record, I too think Blue Dawn (and it's reddish sister Burnt Apple) are the niftiest EBMM colors I've seen so far. If I were to custom order an AL, it would've most likely be in one of those two if they were still offered, but alas....<sigh>....
