My green Luke ltd. when you look at it has started getting a line in the paint on each side of the guitar to the right and left of the pickups if you look straight on at the guitar (I guess it's a 3 piece body right?) I don't 'think' these lines have always been there as I inspect my guitars fairly thoroughly but now that I see these lines... I see them. :D

Have you ever had one of the bodies/paint to crack where the wood/glue seams are on the body itself?

I got exactly the same problem with my Luke, I beleived these guitars were only 2 piece body builded, but my Luke is a 3 piece body ! Does this alter the tone ?

I noticed exactly the same thing (but only one) on my JP Carbon Blue Pearl which arrived on last Saturday. I hope it is nothing important and will not be getting worse and affect anything.... Jon??? What is your opinion??? (BTW the guitar is fully loaded and I have to say it is just amazing - I can't stop playing it! Piezo rules!)

It usually has to do with the local humidity and temperature changes causing the wood underneath the paint to expand/contract. Less flexible paints will show this faster than other finishes - it's not unusual. You will sometimes notice what appears to be the woodgrain rising/sinking on natural/glossed guitars, and burst colors. This can happen to any brand of guitar, I've seen it many many times.

Actually, I have a Frankenstein guitar I am assembling right now, the Chandler body was untouched but about 10 years old, and it has minor surface imperfections caused by the wood changing shape underneath it. The color is such a beautiful blue and the imperfections aren't noticeable from anyone offstage that it doesnt bother me one bit!
